About This Game

State of Matter is a First-Person Puzzle Action Shooter utilizing a new element and its three states of matter to traverse through a derelict mining outpost in the Kuiper Belt. Armed with an experimental mining tool, you must solve puzzles and defeat enemies as you delve deeper into the facility, unlocking the mysteries of the past.

Explore the Facility

Use your mining tool, the Phasm IV SLG, to fire matter in its 3 different states to solve puzzles to traverse the environment. Whether you use high temperature gas to melt ice in your way, solid crystals to create platforms in the environment, or any other combination, you'll have to work with the interplay between the states of matter to make your way through.

Fight the Robots

The facility is still full of mining robots, all in self-defense mode trying to keep anyone they see out. Each state affects the enemies in a different way - you'll have to experiment to find the best way to keep yourself safe.

Discover the Truth

While working your way to the core of the facility, explore your environment to find out the truth about what happened to the scientists. Was it an accident, or something more sinister?

This game is pretty good! i originally bought the game due to it being created on O3DE, but i stuck around to actually playing the game due to its story. this game is just another Gem in the book of indie games on steam. 10/10.

Everything up until the end sequence is pretty fun. Many of the puzzles have interesting solutions, and a lot of the Audio Logs are fun to find. Relatively minor gripe, but the sound effect on the dash is intensely annoying. The story is cliché, but still manages to be cohesive and even fairly poignant in places. That being said, I do have some major qualms with the design of the game. The next section has spoilers for the end of the game: mouse over them at your own risk. The combat is a bit of a mess, and it makes the endgame a chore to get through. The limited charge on the weapon is purely an inconvenience: imagine Metroid Prime except your arm cannon has a stamina meter and needs to take a break every ~5 shots or so. None of the puzzles would be made any easier by having unlimited charge, so I find it somewhat baffling that its use time is so limited. Enemy damage is quite high, with most killing in as few as 4 or 5 hits, and most encounters having at least 3 en...

Great little indie game, especially for the price. There is a bit of a steep difficulty curve which is a bit jarring at first but still fun. Its actually a really fun speed game with a lot of stuff to work around. Definitely worth it.

This game is very well made. The levels are well thought out and their puzzles utilize the game mechanics to their highest potential. The action sequences are very difficult but highly rewarding once you finally figure out what you need to do. On top of this, the story and lore of the game is very interesting if you take the time to collect all of the audio logs (which I highly recommend you do) and it speaks to the dev teams capabilities to provide a compelling story alongside an already well constructed game! Hope to see more from these guys theyve got a lot of potential!

It's a good game. You can tell a lot of hard work went into this, and it really shows. If you're thinking about getting it, just do it. You won't regret it.

Really fun first person puzzle game. The mechanics of the SLG are totally unique and well used throughout the game. The levels are not overly complicated, yet sufficiently challenging to be rewarding when completed. If you take the time to find the audio logs (do it) you'll see that there's a pretty good backstory to go along with the game. And I simply have to call out the soundtrack - it's phenomenal, and it perfectly fits the space mystery theme of the game. The game may not be huge, but there's certainly enough content that for only a couple dollars it's absolutely worth it to pick it up and play through.

Overall, I really really enjoyed this game! it was challenging and took some creative work to maneuver through the levels, especially the boss levels were pretty challenging. I hopped on and just was motivated till the end and I enjoyed it through it all and ended up finishing the game and writing this review at 2:30 in the morning lol. Good: It reminded me a lot of the good old early Halo Combat to Halo 3 years with the sense of getting lost in these levels, having to find your way around without a lot of guidance, and having a lot of enemies to plow through. Would recommend to friends it was fun and creative. Especially the tool to use it was kinda like a Half Life Phys Gun / figure out which state of matter to use in certain combat and level obstacles. Work On: Couple things to note, the game is pretty graphics card heavy and there is no option to turn it down. My RTX 4070 was COOKIN at 80%-100% most of the time. And one level caused the game to crash if I was not careful to ov...
