Rally Arcade Classics

The game forces the linux version to be 480p and perform a goatse to stretch on my 21:9 monitor with no graphics settings you can change... If you use the Windows version via proton you can now have actual graphics settings, however, the settings are straight ass... I understand it wants to be one of those "retro" racer, however this just feels like a soulless game that you'd see from a budget brand in 2010 with no real graphical style. Would've expected more something akin to RalliSport Challenge 2 on the original Xbox. The game want you to race with Mr. Bean car which isn't very fun for a first taste of the game that you get and those 10 races that last 20 seconds for the license are pointless, once you unlock the actual courses they are quite short, not even a minute long... Also tried the arcade mode and I would probably outpace the rivals by walking on foot irl, also with courses less than a minute long of course. The game gave me a VERY bad first impression, I was expecting mo...

So..... its a fun rally title thats got enough about its physics and track design to want you to play more..... to a point. its a grind! dont think ya popping into a group B car any time soon, its an enjoyable grind to a point..... then it bites you hard.... some cars you buy will not be available in the class they ment for, so you end up grinding for a vehicle only to find out it can only be used on 3 events out of 12..... so you then need a new car but dont have money or available events to get said car. This leaves the option to grind gold events so said vehicles can be used...... it gets to the point that you may aswell take a sander to your sandra bullocks for enjoyment. shame, its got its fun moments and is a solid enough arcade rally game, doesnt take itself too serious, but has depth and reply value with the leaderboards...... but waaaay too much of a grind to ever fully enjoy. chef

This is a great little arcade rally game with handling that makes sense and tons of races, time trials, drift challenges and License tests some of which are quite challenging to clear with a gold though gold is not required for progression so don't let that put you off. There are lots of cars as well that most will recognise and quite a few stages which leads me to my only criticism which is there are only 4 locations though they are visually different and have a mixture of surfaces. Note: probably best played with a controller, I am playing on Steam Deck and the controls are set up out of the box and it runs well on the deck.
