About This Game

A doomed sailor is shipwrecked on an uncharted island. In fog-shrouded valleys, where grinning, mossy corpses cling to rusted arms, shambling figures begin to stir. Beneath crumbling, salt-worn structures, labyrinthine passageways lead to unspeakable evil, long forgotten by man.

Salt and Sanctuary seamlessly combines fast, brutal, and complex 2D combat with richly developed RPG mechanics. Discover, craft, and upgrade over 600 weapons, armor pieces, spells, and items as you explore a cursed realm of forgotten cities, blood-soaked dungeons, desecrated monuments, and the fallen lords they once celebrated.

From Ska Studios, the award-winning indie studio behind a long list of stylistic, visceral, and brutally executed action titles that includes The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, and Charlie Murder, comes Salt and Sanctuary, the studio’s most ambitious title to date.

Everyone slaps “soulslike” on anything these days just because it has a dodge button, stamina bar, or some hard bosses. Nah. That’s surface level. Souls isn’t just about the combat — it’s the worldbuilding, the bleak atmosphere, the cryptic lore, the way it all feels connected and oppressive at the same time. Salt and Sanctuary is one of the only games outside FromSoft that nails that. The atmosphere? Bleak, gothic, and oppressive — like you’re trespassing somewhere you shouldn’t be. The level design? Interconnected in a way that actually feels thought out, with shortcuts that make you go “Ohhh, I’m back here!” instead of just another linear hallway. The lore? Vague but deliberate, with enough hooks for you to piece together your own understanding instead of spoon-feeding exposition. Combat feels weighty without being clunky, the bosses are memorable (and brutal without feeling unfair), and the risk/reward system actually matters — lose your salt, and it...

Great game overall, the combat system is really nice and enjoyable. For me it’s an 8/10 game. ⭐️🔝

This game is peak, I got to say the fact that I got softlocked on mal's floating castle with no torches and no sanctuaries to travel to, I ended up starting all over again and finished the game in 2 days, it's not the greatest game but its pretty good. One last complaint is that bosses can spam the same move over and over and can be frustrating, final verdict: a really decent I would say 8.5/10 2D soulslike game.

Another Ska Studios banger, feels like 2d dark souls in the best way possible.

This game is great. The game is easy for being a souls like game. I would strongly recommend this game for people who want to start playing souls like games. This game is great only thing that I would change is the multiplayer system would be great to play online.

Out of all the soulslike games out there, this is the only one to ever even come close to the real deal. Have played through this game dozens of times (on other consoles) but this game plays perfect on Steam and is even more fun with a friend! Catch it on sale and give it a shot!

The back tracking is ridiculous, confusing as hell and no fast travel. Thats one big issue that i don't like about this game, it just killed my mood to play this game any longer. i tried to like it but in the end i just uninstalled the game, maybe i'm gonna try again in the future but for now i don't want wasting more time with this game.
