Currently, the devs are quietly locking items and quests behind multiplayer. While most wouldn't see this as an issue, the game itself was, in its day 1 vid advertised as being completely playable solo. This move towards multiplayer comes immediately after notifications about console release, so you all know what that means: SHAREHOLDERS. The game has decided to treat players as a metric instead of delivering the game they promised, bragged about, and talked smack about other companies over. FunDog has inevitably returned to its AAA roots and bent the knee to the almighty red line instead of sticking to its guns. Save your money and buy the art book when it comes, hopefully they won't patch that with disappointment as well and have the integrity to deliver something that sticks to their word this time around instead of back-alley patching mainline quests and loot mechanics with multiplayer locks. ________________________________________ A bunch of salty people need to get off of fun...

About This Game

You’re A Small Fish In A Big Apocalypse.
Scavenge and fight for your next day alive under the shadow of gargantuan war machines. Enemies in the game can literally tower over the battlefield. To put it another way:

War. War Always Changes.
The battlefield is unpredictable thanks to The Forever Winter’s Dynamic Encounter system: enemies have their own goals and agendas, operating in coordinated groups, undertaking full-scale battles — and they’ll intelligently react to your actions. The battlefield you leave won’t be the same one you return to.
Only The Smart Survive - But Guns Help.
Use your wits, stealth, and skilled gunplay to make it out alive. Choose your path in the shadow of the two great superpowers, loot the dead, and make it out alive. While the warring factions may ignore you at first, the more disruptive you become to their goals, the more they'll seek to remove you from the equation.
A Grim Vision Of The Future.
Ecological collapse compounded by runaway technological advancement brought us here: a world choked by 40 years of industrial-scale violence between two military superpowers, unmerciful mass killing by AI automata, human-machine hybrids, and the bleak truth of human nature. There’s two sides to this war, and you’re not on either.

knew it was over when they started dropping skins before the game got out of EA. can't recommend the game right now, even at its current discounted price of $18usd (-40%). the devs, since acquiring their new pocketbooks (read: publishers), are absolutely flabbergasted at what's next for the game. Miles habitually dodges or flat out is unable to answer questions during their QnA segments as he legitimately has no foresight anymore. it's not because they hate their game, it's because they have shareholders who, as we all know, only care about the da moni. it's over man, and I kinda find it ironic because FunDog promoted this game as a slap in the face of comparable AAA games - and now look at them. hilarious. tldr: game not worth unless 80% off or more. direction = out the window in favour of profitability
Alright. First off this game was made by artists that know how to program a game, but not actual game developers that know what makes a game fun and entertaining. At least that’s what I’m getting from the time I’ve been playing this game. So I would like to point out stuff I absolutely love and hate about this game. The things I love about this game: I’m just saying... the artist(s)... please I want you to teach me how you did this. I will sit there and listen for hours to what your mouths will tell me, cause this is just amazing and a purely stunning art style. I may be exaggerating a little but I mean it. If you ever wanted a game with a truly sci-fi grim dark apocalyptic setting. It doesn’t have like this religious ambient like in Warhammer or other games. It’s more like “We want to believe in something in a world where there is nothing to believe in anymore.” Like you see little shrines and rudimentary graves on battlefields that are literally just mud, guts and...
Incredibly disappointing bait and switch by FunDog... don't waste your time, money in this. it's bad now, and will only get worse.
Another reason why Steam should get rid of all so-called Early Access games
The artwork is fine. The overall concepts look promising at the start. However, the gameplay isn't as enjoyable as I expected. It can't get me high enough to play past the first 30 minutes. So far it's basically a "loser simulator". There is also a serious performance problem that eats away my GPU even though I just stand idle in the small city box. The game is definitely not optimized. Some graphic options cannot even be turned off in order to test the game. Refund completed. There is nothing else I could praise of this unfinished product. Maybe later, when it's really finished.
I bought the game immediately when it released in early access because of the astonishing vision of the project and I enjoy the core gameplay but I'm getting confused about where this game is heading. The whole "You are not this guy but this guy" vision isn't working anymore. We are supposed to be rats scavenging loot, not soldiers with big arsenal and yet, the devs keep adding huge bosses or enemies that keep tracking you relentlessly or worse, having missions to kill enemies. I understand the idea of add an amount of challenges to make the game more engaging but it's not the game you sold initally. Enemy ai also need to be fixed. They have no coordination, they just walk randomly in every way without any purpose and it's even worse to have them spawning right next to you. That should be one of your top priorities.
As much as I love T.F.W, I cannot in good faith recommend it in it's current state. I was going to say nothing about the game initially and let it eventually go into 1.0. However, it seems the devs are trying to push the game into a 1.0 release faster then we can really blink before it's even the end of this year. I'm in the boat of "Don't release 1.0 this year" category. There are still a lot of glaring issues with the game that have been around since day one and enemy movement, animations, pathing and physics are just a few issues. Now, whats really grinding my gears is the aggro system, they had it pretty much how I wanted it on day 1, enemies would not focus on you if they were fighting each other, even if you walked between 2 squads shooting at each other, they would refuse to aggro to you in any way. Mechs would flat out ignore you unless you got too close or were literally the only target on the field. The devs, in the most recent changes as far as I know, keep wanting to change...
Stop adding invincible enemies. Stop trying to be too fucking clever. Just stop. Fix the game first. You cannot add invincible fucking enemies and a dozen other one shots into the game, when I still step on randon rocks and sink into the geometry of the map. You can't make the gameplay more frustrating, when the game itself is broken enough to be frustrating on its own. You aren't going to make the next big live service, stop trying to trend that direction. Stop. You have good ideas here, refine them. And I hear it now, "You are supposed to be a weak rat, wah wah, invincible enemies make it harder waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah." No. It makes it unfun. Period. I don't care if your ai is so busted that I tricked your weeaboo, ground slamming punchbot into getting stuck (Also remove the buttslams from the game. No one likes getting killed by anime shockwaves unless there are anime tiddies to go with it.). That's not my fucking problem. Its yours, developer. Make enemies challenging without making...
I was there in the beginning, not the very beginning but close enough. Riloe was my introduction to this unique game called The Forever Winter, my love for this game started like many others. It was September, so I caved in and bought it. First time playing the game, my god the game was beautiful and then radio chatter sounded off right behind me and I was waxed by a squad right behind me. A common occurrence back then where enemies spawned uncomfortably close on top of you. The game had a few low points in its time during Early access, and many agree Early access launch might be its lowest point. The game was very undercooked, I found out that the fans wanted FunDog to release the game Early access earlier and against better judgement they did, that was a mistake. It was shit show back then and sometimes stuff still happens, but good things have come from the Early Access, no more real-time water drain, imagine if that was still a thing at full release. Everything I was experiencing ...
