Retaliate is a retro inspired space shooter with a twist, you start with no ammo!

Unlike those in the golden era of space shooters you are not so fortunate as to have infinite ammo. Instead use your shield to both destroy your enemies and absorb their weapons, then use your enemies' weapons to retaliate!

Story

Discover who has seized control of all the weapons in the galaxy and bring their reign of terror to an end!

Arcade

Challenge yourself in mastering the mechanics of Retaliate. Go for a highscore in Endless mode, perfect the levels in Trials mode, or try the original that inspired it all in Classic mode.

Hangar

What is victory if you're not doing it in style? Customize your ship and your shield in the hangar.

An awesome game for fans of old old school shmups like Galaga, Centipede and or Space Invaders. The twist on the ammo system is such a smart design choice for mixing up a classic gameplay formula. The weapon mechanics are simple, but have a surprising amount of depth to master. There's the typical selection of modes that you'd find in this kind of game (story, arcade, trials, endless) but I don't believe there is any sort of progression system, which maybe would have been cool; for that reason, $10 might be a bit steep, but if you're a fan of the genre, I think it is definitely worth the price. The only negative thing (for me) is the art direction: generic space shooter. With such a distinctive mechanic, the game would have benefited greatly from a more stylized visual style. TDLR: Classic gameplay with an cool twist but generic visual style. Definitely worth picking up for fans of shmups, especially Galaga!
