As a disclaimer, I am friends with one of the devs, so this recommendation is rather biased lmao First of, Fight Back The Night has an initially steep difficulty spike at level 1, making it rather hard to initially get into the game. Once you're past that initial hurdle however, the game and it's mechanics really open up, making it far more forgiving to continue sticking through. There's plenty of fun world building, mechanics and blitz through this with a fair degree of challenge offset by some very fun upgrades. At the time of review there are a few bugs that may impede progress, but the devs are lightning fast of patching out these bugs. Talking with one they've said that I'm currently about halfway through this short yet fun experience, and I have to give it a nice big thumbs up even with the bugs. Give it a shot if you want, it's fun, cheep and challenging!

About This Game
MONSTERS LURK IN THE DARK
Fight a variety of creatures infesting the kingdom - each with their own unique methods of attack, and ties to the darkness. Can you drive these beasts back to the realm they call home?
YOU MUST RESTORE THE LIGHT
Rid an area of the infesting darkness by lighting and protecting beacons - be wary, however, as once a beacon strarts to light it will draw in those who would see it snuffed out.
ENHANCE YOUR POWER
Use your experience to power up certain aspects of your power - either through devotion to the God of Fire, Syr - or by imbuing yourself with the powers of the beasts you slay. Will you embrace the darkness?
EXPLORE THE KINGDOM
Navigate levels through a charming overworld system - travelling between levels, finding new friends, allies - and foes - along the way.
DISCOVER THE TRUTH
Not all is as it seems with this invasion - can you discover what the church is hiding? Are these creatures of the night exactly as they appear, or are they something more?

Fun gameplay! I like the jokes
Very fun game, love all the little details in levels, I need to explore full thing to pick up every different skin. First boss fight was fun, and difficulty went up after introducing those dang slugs taking out lit beacons (how dare they)
Solid twin stick dungeon crawler, plus the world and lore are really intriguing. Definitely recommended!
Fun and challenging game. Love the atmosphere, detailed sprite work and controller support!!!
Music and art style are pretty good, and the combat flows well for me, would recommend
Been enjoying it so far. There's a nice sense of challenge, but not overly punishingly so. Upgrade system has me intrigued. I will update more as i progress further. Liking the pixel art too, its an understated artform.
Such an interactive game. Is amazing. Catches the player's attention. You want to keep playing it and you will. Highly recommend. Great artwork. Very fun.
fireballs make brain go brrrrr
His name was wounded, it was his birthright to lay there dying as such. To lay their gazing upon ones saviour drawing your last breath. His life had went full cycle.
