The game suffers from excessive repetitiveness. While new buildings and turrets are unlocked, they fail to meaningfully diversify the gameplay experience. The core mechanics remain unchanged throughout, making progression feel stagnant. New technologies only provide numerical improvements rather than fundamentally altering how the game is played, leaving the core gameplay loop monotonous. Even different factions feel indistinguishable from one another, lacking unique mechanics or strategic approaches.

Fun concept at its core but needs serious balancing. After having multiple crew members one shot by a steam block over and over when you have little control over their movement I had enough. Will revisit later.

interesting game that I enjoyed for 5-ish hours. Then it started to wear thin. Most of the buildings feel samey and have minimal impact. Upgrades in the tech tree and in mission all seem to be numerical (+10% X) IMHO the game play comes from microing your workers during the day to dig, carry, fight. Highlight some stone and watch them go. Later levels have your guys dodging traps, monsters and environmental hazards. You can Fast Forward time, but that normally got my miners squashed or burned to death. Didn't seem like there was much to do at night besides manually targeting abilities (you can target guns later too). Enemies don't drop loot or mats so you don't make progress at night. No defensive mazing.

Drill Core was a very pleasant surprise when I first tried it out about a year ago during a Steam Next Fest. Back then it didn't have the same amount of stuff as it does today, but even then I could see the potential for many hours of fun that this game had. I've been playing it on and off over the course of its time in Early Access, and now that it has hit 1.0, I feel it's the right time to write a review for it. This game is a session-based management game where you manage a team of diggers while descending into the deep on a large mining platform, collecting resources to upgrade your platform with various upgrades that makes your personnel faster, stronger, more resilient, while also fitting out the platform with various guns, cannons, lasers, and mine deployers in order to protect you from the incoming hostile fauna that shows up during the night. The sheer amount of different buildings and gun platforms in this game is staggering to say the least, and all of them work in their ...

For it's price, I enjoy this game. People complaining after 50+ hours for a $20 game are crazy, that's a helluva deal. The tutorial could be a bit better. While I may have survived my first game, it was a rough first game. Lots of death, lots of close calls, but then after that first game it I got the hang of it and my 2nd game+ was way faster/smoother. I like the two different phases - day phase for mining and resource management, night phase as a tower defense game. The only real characters you can control though are the miners themselves, as one group. What I would like to see in a sequel is management of specific miners and units / groups. I get balance may be an issue when almost all the threats are telegraphed, but it would add an extra layer of strategy to the mix. Not a complex game, but fun nonetheless, and for it's pricepoint I feel like it's a deal, le hidden gem.

This game isnt that bad, it could be salvaged with a few changes. 1. The buttons to initiate the next level and to recall the workers to base desperately need to instant. the process is far to often interrupted by an upgrade option pop up. Then once its interrupted, you have to press it again and wait. Often the result is that the workers are slow getting back to base and far more likely to get shredded. 2. There needs to be an option to just have workers return at night instead of manually having to recall them every day. Its not fun gameplay to constantly interrupt whatever you're doing to hastily recall troops. Because if you're late to the draw, then the entire run is shredded. 3. The AI is awful. Its overly difficult keeping workers alive when they have no sense of self preservation. The miners have a little bit of self awareness when they are mining. However, when the miners go idle they may as well be asleep. The guards also frequently find terrible spots to stop and id...

The rate at which you lose miners is such a frequent irritation it outweighs the fun that could be this game. After saying “dammit” about 15 times during a run when another miner got splattered, I uninstalled. Almost fun with a single, hugely irritating design flaw.
