TLDR: This game is almost great. However, it is held back by clunky, constant, and intrusive UI jank - which means that, for now at least, I can't give it a recommendation. If they fix problems 1-3 below, I'd happily switch this to an endorsement - it will never be what it could have been, but what it is can be good thematic fun. Let me tell you a story. I have a friend who likes to bake or cook for everyone - and it's always "almost great." In his pursuit of being a great chef, he's forgotten how to be a good cook. His culinary experiments always detract from what he was cooking, but in a way that makes you say "man, this was almost great, but I really just wanted a chocolate chip cookie." That's how I feel about Worshippers of Cthulhu. Pervasively, the game tries to add interesting things; but for everything it adds, the implementation falls flat. Let's start with my pettiest gripe and move on from there: This is a game about insane cultists worshiping non-euclidean hor...

About the Game
Lead the Cult of Cthulhu. Decide the fate of your followers, perform eldritch rituals, and master the art of city-building in a world where the line between sanity and madness blurs. Can you endure the horrors you unleash?
You are not a harbinger of destruction; but a herald of cosmic rebirth. Your purpose is not to sow chaos, but to embrace the inevitable evolution that awaits us all.
Humanity is insignificant, pitiful in its smallness. Our existence is a fleeting whisper in the cosmic winds, and only by awakening Cthulhu can we transcend our feeble existence.
In one profound act, you can shake the foundations of the universe.
Awaken Cthulhu, for in his awakening lies the catalyst for a cascading effect that will reshape the cosmos and a new order shall emerge.
The path ahead is treacherous, fraught with challenges. Yet, it is the only path worth treading. Forge a destiny that transcends the mundane!

Embark on the path of cult leadership, where your decisions shape the destiny of each follower—decide whether they toil, conquer, or devote their lives to dark rituals. Manage the day-to-day intricacies of cult affairs, from proclaiming dogmas to announcing celebrations and engaging with devoted servants. All these efforts converge toward a singular goal—awakening your god.

Only a formidable cult can achieve the extraordinary feat of awakening the Old One, and Cthulhu tolerates only the strong. Establish and expand cities across multiple islands, ensuring they not only sustain your followers but flourish, intimately connected to the awakened deity. Skillfully oversee production chains, manage your workforce, and navigate perilous ruins that occupy valuable space.

Step into the mystical realm as you engage with the Great One, Dagon, and other Lovecraftian entities through intricate rituals. These ceremonies unlock profound knowledge and bestow supernatural blessings upon you. Utilize these blessings to enhance your power and expand your city, all while delving deeper into the mysterious forces that surround you.

In this vast Lovecraftian narrative, realize your place as a mere part of a grander world. Non-believers are a valuable source of land, resources, and manpower. Choose to conquer, pillage, sacrifice, or convert them based on your strategy, shaping your destiny

Begin your journey with limited knowledge of the surrounding world, gradually unraveling the mysteries of the supernatural realm. Immerse yourself in the eerie atmosphere crafted in Lovecraft's unique language and writing style.

TL;DR: Abusive relationship-you want to play with it, but it doesn't wanna play with you. I hope the developers, (and future players) see this review and take it as constructive feedback. Now, I'm not shy, I'll admit it loudly-though not proudly-that I play on a potato gaming laptop. It's not too terrible, I can manage games like WoW or BG3 with medium-high settings. The laptop screams, but that's what headphones are for. So running this game should be no issue graphic wise. This game has been fairly addictive for me!...when its not frozen...which is frequent and a lot. You can go to settings and try to make adjustments there, only for them to be completely ineffective. I was set to very low/disabled on almost everything. I even dropped the rendering to 50%. Which is a complete shame as the graphics are wonderful! But the game will still freeze and move in chunks; regardless of how much nitpicking you do with the system settings. I'm not a beginner to games like these either, I was...
repetitive and unimaginative. basic city builder balance this or bad thing happen fast with love craft makeup. not remotely interesting to be honest unless your obsessed with generic city builder economy balancers cos thats all it is.
Meh
Worshippers of cathulu turned out to be a solid city-builder, with light combat mechanics. In terms of gameplay mechanics, I did not find the game to be very novel, but it did everything well and maybe it's for the better. Surprisingly, despite the atmosphere, the game was pretty relaxing and didn't have many sharp edges. Victory is slow, gradual and mostly involves expanding the settelement as much as possible. Failure always avoidable, and never sudden. This may sound like a negative, but after playing much longer "against the storm" I enjoyed the slow gameplay here, even if it is just for the campaign.
I haven’t played Worshipers of Cthulhu for very long yet, but I can already say one thing: I absolutely love this game. It’s insanely fun. Imagine something like Anno—but infused with cosmic horror, dark rituals, and Lovecraftian atmosphere. That’s exactly what this feels like. The game is packed with well-thought-out mechanics. The progression system and some features can feel a little clunky or challenging at times, but overall, the design is clever and satisfying. The combination of city-building and horror elements works far better than I expected, and the whole experience has a unique, immersive vibe. What really stands out are the little touches—like the ritual minigames, the sacrifices, and the unsettling atmosphere they create. Those moments add a lot of flavor and keep me engaged every time I play. If you’re into Cthulhu, Lovecraft, or cosmic horror in general, this is a must-try. It’s a super cool game that delivers both strategy and atmosphere in a way that ...
Makes me want to start my own cult.
Who knew it was so much fun to run a cult?
Absolutely love this game! Good mix of strategy and econ builder with fun Cthulhu terrors to munch your enemies! Could get really difficult multi-player I think. Would want to play through the campaign as tutorial before taking on other humans! Check the screenshots here, lots and lots of potential for growth!
This game just plays like Anno. The graphical depiction of choices and descriptions of what happens is so good I want to read the real deal again. Art direction and design direction: masterfully done.
