The art style is nice, it's simple yet appealing. The sound design does a good job at making the game feel.. well.. unsettling. Seriously. Maybe I'm just not good with horror, but it really has its moments of giving me chills. It makes for a good horror experience. The gameplay is enjoyable. It comes with different modes, or "nightmares". Some more challenging than others. I really like that there's definitely a skill requirement here. The more you play, the better you'll get. It started pretty challenging (for me atleast). After a few attempts, I was finally able to get past the restoration mode - It was no easy task.. I was on the brink of death. The prompt of going to the centre after completing it was so satisfying due to the challenge I had faced to get there. I'm pretty confident once I complete that a few more times, I can start attempting the more daunting nightmares. Eventually, it leaves room for speed runs. I haven't uncovered much of the story elements yet, but I'm sure I...

THE NIGHTMARE
A place filled of evil. With anatomic entities coursing through every vein of this unsettling town; don't let the darkness find you.
GAME MODES
Divination
The Divination Nightmare is the main game mode in—The Recurrence—where you must use your EMF Reader to find spiritual crosses to perform alter rituals to escape the nightmare.
Vindication
Slay the Evil Spirits until the Blood River is content with sacrifices. The Vindication Nightmare is a horde / wave-based game mode that introduces a heavy action element to The Recurrence.

THE ENTITIES
The evil spirits of this world are quite malicious. Use your flashlight to burn the entities that lurk in the darkness. Be careful of the Bloodfall; where enemies become enraged and grow more powerful throughout the night.

User Reviews
The interesting art style gave me hope that the low price meant this was a short, tightly-crafted experience, but unfortunately The Recurrence's price only signifies that it's a low-quality game. This is a Slender-esque first-person horror game that mostly individualizes itself with larger swarms of enemies that can be killed, rather than one big bad that never dies. There are some other differences, namely that you only generally have to collect one item at a time before more of the map opens up more, and there's a small survival section after collecting each of them, but these differences don't do a lot to make the main gameplay loop interesting. The issues to be had with every game that tried to capitalize off Slender years ago still exist in this, and in some cases are made even worse. Admittedly I didn't get far, but that's because wandering around an empty area looking for a single item while occasionally taking damage just isn't fun. The enemies in the first few areas don't ha...
According to the devlog of this game, this game was based on a nightmare the game developer had. But I'm gonna write an honest review: this game is so underwhelming. I honestly bought this game because I wanted to support the game developer, but as for the game itself, I couldn't even get hooked. Whenever I'm tasked to find something, especially when the location is not disclosed, I always get lost and never find the item. The enemies are also not so scary. There is absolutely no reason to even pay attention to the enemies, as when they touch you, you don't die, take damage, but simply recoil a bit. If you want to support the game developer, then please buy the game no matter its price. But if you're looking for a good game, then this may not be the best pick. This is just me though! No hard feelings towards the game developer!
Love the art style of this game, very intrigued to play through the story and play through the different game modes in the game!
Has an awesome ambience and I like the concept of having different "nightmares" as different game modes!
Acuze recommend I check out this game and Im glad I did. I love the art style and music and never did I think I would stress out so much over a voxel games tutorial as eye balls attack me. 10/10 Would 100% recommend for 2.99
Pretty good, Worth checking out
I picked up an hour ago it's a total blast! The game play mechanics are smooth, and I'm loving every minute of it. The game is pretty hard but that's what makes it so fun. For just 5 bucks, this game is such a great deal. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
I'm in the game dev community and figured I would pick up this game to support boundless games. That being said, I did want to give my honest opinion and not just leave a review just for the sake of it. for context I played through the tutorial and the Divination game mode along with touching each of the other game modes at least once. To start, it's good! I had fun playing the game but I will break it down to the pros and cons and what I think could be improved. Pros - [*] The biggest and most obvious one is the game's sound design. It really helps indicate where the enemies are and add to the atmosphere. The music even more so. I legitimately felt terrified when the music box sounds would start playing and the sky turned red every time. [*] The graphics are also very fun. While the cartoonish voxel style doesn't necessarily add to the horror vibe it does make it cool and unique. [*] The items were cool. It was cool switching strategically between each of them or using none of th...
