I've followed this games development from a somewhat early stage since I know the dev personally, and while the new update did address SOME issues, the game remains as a boring, tedious, and monotonous as ever. While the new characters are neat, they either make the game piss easy or borderline unplayable. For example, the grenade character got a major change from playtesting that makes the grenades damage based instead of an instant destroy and now modules, one of the main sources of upgrades, take 5 GRENADES to destroy. Keep in mind these grenades take time to explode and don't stick to anything. The most I can say for biomes is that... they exist? They don't really do anything besides limit where certain modules can be found. This was a highly requested addition during early access but it was implemented in possibly the laziest way I could think of. Ore spawns are no different in biomes, it's all layer dependant, which makes no sense for the new Scrapyard biome due to Scrapm...

About This Game

Oddment is a roguelite focused on mining and exploration. It takes place in year 910,010. You play as a old, rustic robot that was created and then abandoned by the mega corporation of your home world. You are now on the home world's moon, where the mega corporation throws away all of their junk. You don't know why you are here, but you were assigned one objective: Mine.
You can mine through the moon with various upgrades! You must gather materials to unlock many abilities such as improved fuel capacity, increased laser damage, faster movement speed, and much more. Using these upgrades, you can achieve greater depths and find your ultimate goal.
As you go deeper in the moon you will find new, tougher caverns. In these deeper caves, you will find it harder to break the stone, but you will find new and very helpful materials. These new materials will be required for more advanced upgrades!

User Reviews
Overall, I enjoyed the game, but I would perhaps suggest most people wait until it's further along in development. I will note that I did not actually finish the game, for reasons I'll get to. The parts I liked: - Mining felt very satisfying, and the difference with each level of upgrade felt very good. - The world generation looked good, and really promoted a sense of risk-taking, especially at the beginning where I was dropping down shafts and going from one pocket of coal to another. - Finding modules was always fun, especially at the beginning. - I liked Some of the UI decisions. The Upgrade tree was nice, and being able to pin specific upgrades was good. Parts I think need some improvement: - The beginning part can get very slow and tenuous. I died a few times, sometimes after several minutes of scraping by, and it got pretty frustrating. Upgrading is slow enough at the start where it's hard to feel progress, and then later in the game it shoots up so quickly that I was maxing o...
Even for the price, there's just not enough here yet to justify a purchase. This feels more like an early dev build, rather than even a public beta. It's a shadow of an interesting concept, and by all means keep an eye on it, but right now that's all it is. I'll change this review when it's fleshed out enough, and if the execution ends up being as interesting as the concept, but this was not ready to hit stores yet, even as an early access game.
