When I think of Darkwood, the first thing that comes to my mind is how much of an authentic experience it is; not just because of its atmosphere and gameplay, but also because of how every part of the game is beautifully pieced together, from beginning to end, that makes you notice every little touch and labor of love from the devs. The game starts with you in a stranger's shoes who is hurt, betrayed, lost and who doesn't even know where he is. I can go further to say he is even completely a stranger to himself at this point. A stranger who is oblivious to everything that's been happening around him, just like how player found themselves in the middle of a vagueness with so many unreliable narrators, insane savages and hopeless souls to meet. The way you move, swing your weapon and interact with the far from fathomable world of Darkwood itself, every part of the experience something special, making Darkwood's replayability always exciting. I especially wanted to mention this exciting p...

Darkwood does a great job of showing off its weird, unsettling world, but it struggles to tell players what they have to do. The woods are home to secrets and terrible truths alike. Though it falls short of reaching its full potential, mostly due to questionable controls and cumbersome combat, this horror game is worth the experience on the merits of its haunting atmosphere alone.
It took me 52 minutes to delete the game. Luckily, it was bought during a huge sale. It's pretty stylish and quite dark, but it lacks purpose. There's no main quest or clear goal. I just walked around the forest, died a few times to some dogs, and that was it. The final straw was the unchangeable font. I have poor vision and don’t want to play wearing glasses. Was it really so hard to let me change the font size?
Took me 3 separate occasions over 2/3 years to finally get into this game. The learning curve can be pretty rough. Very glad I pushed through to the end though, this game is unlike any other's I've played. Very good little horror experience. Go slow. Respect the forest.
Amazing game, but if you're not scared it becomes really tedious towards the end of the game.
Bought this after watching the Pyro Vid gud game & Scary (cuz of poland)
A masterpiece in survival horror game making. Getting to play the game in it's final form prior to knowing of the multi year crowd sourcing campaign and development, it's hard to believe that it was made by just three people. The story telling is all so natural. You wont find a man who lore dumps you the meaning of the Forrest or dozens of audio files. Instead you pick up bits and pieces along the way from "conversations" with characters, environmental story telling and random items and notes scattered around the world. You might play the game in way that leaves the story completely unknown to you. In the other hand, you might scour the land for all clues, items and small scraps of notes and even still there is ambiguity to the story the game is telling you. If you are tired of endless objective markers, collectibles and characters lore dumping everything to you, you most likely will enjoy Darkwood. The horror is immaculate. Often the amount of tension follows directly from your...
Genuinely hard and scary. The sound in this game is so well done, it really increases the tension.
One of the best horror/survival games I've ever played. Very unique. Nails atmosphere. Sound design is amazing and the lighting/vision system compliments it perfectly.
