Though maybe not as prominent as Vanripper's later games, like Helltaker, RONIN is a solid and fun platforming stealth action game with excellent tone, soundtrack, and simple fun. The game is certainly challenging - especially on NG+ - but the generous checkpoints and increasing power make it always survivable. A solid choice for someone looking for a fun few hours with great aesthetics and feel.

The game doesn't work on 1440p screen, couldn't get past tutorial without turning off full screen and playing in windowed 1080p. The buttons dint work in 1440p
I've played and beaten the GOG version of Ronin, so despite whatever Steam is saying, I have plenty of experience with this game. PROS: + Simple, nice-looking graphics. Probably vector-based, but I don't know for sure. + Real-time movement with a semi-turn-based combat that gives you time to think through your moves. + Very simple controls using the mouse. + Includes an RPG-like upgrade system, where you gain new skills and abilities. + Can replay levels in any order after finishing them the first time. + Nothing chases after you (which is unfortunately very common in platformers) and very few situations require split-second timing. + While enemy agents will trigger an alarm and call for backup if you're spotted, you can kill them before they do this. You'll see a countdown above them and if you knock them down you'll temporarily stop the countdown (which then has to start over) or if you kill them that takes care of it entirely. + Natively compatible with Windows, Mac OS,...
Incredibly frustrating, unfinished (other characters on the photograph, hello??), unpolished and clunky game. I believe that the newbie developer believed in his project and simply lacked the skills, but throughout the game you get the feeling that the user experience was completely **** (ignored). It is unpleasant to play mostly because of the inhumane disgraceful attitude towards the player. Time-wasting elevators and the lack of a shortcut exit at the end of the location, total randomness of the AI, the technical issues (if you play not in a tiny window, then the buttons on the screen simply cannot be pressed). You can jump in an arc, but hit your opponent with your ass and stop mid-jump, you can hit a bullet trace with your back, you can get a ninja stuck in a wall, making him unreachable and but calling an alarm. I Finished the game, tho, but you better play Gunpoint, it looks similar, but in fact it is much deeper and better quality.
Super fun game until half way through the mechanics entirely change from time-based alarms to a death timer. Would be pretty good if the mechanics were all consistent.
aids to play with controller. M+K controls are fine. Terrible settings, I had to run the game windowed on 1/4th of my screen. The pricing is crazy for this slop. Incredibly short and bare bones game. Read below for more info. You play one of the most pathetic assassins of all time. The second the combat starts your character forgets how to climb up/down walls and ledges. Every kill needs to be an anime jump execution, even when it means the animation goes straight into line of fire above you. How about a simple stab, slash, anything? No? great. You can stand on some lamps and platforms. why can't you hang on them or even grapple them? The ronin is oddly selective in what to use and where to just fly past. The bonus objective to let civilians live is great. as soon as one notices you it's reload time because there is no way to knock them out. you can jump at them but they'll just get back up and call the alarm. And that aside, what the fuck is wrong with the combat? I aim the jum...
