Currently a bit mixed about this game, Would overall recommend it but wait for a sale if you're on the fence. 1.0 released today, finally adding the last act of the game and an ending to the story. As a huge Dead Cells fan I bought this in early access but didn't play much, I'm now a bit disappointed that with 10 total hours in game I already have the true ending to the story, with what feels like a bit of a lacklustre amount of content in the game. The 1.0 release is also quite buggy, my health bar is all over the place with random values and graphically inaccurate to the numbers on the bar. Entire parts of some maps are blacked out, some enemies are invisible, amongst other misc. problems. Nothing quite game breaking but a step back from how the previous updates felt. As opposed to Dead Cells and many other rogue-lites, I feel a lot less incentive to keep playing due to how the story and gameplay loop is approached. Movement feels overall good most of the time, but bosses...

Been here since the early purple days of Early Access. This is an underrated gem and one of my favourite roguelike platformers

About a year ago I decided to take a look at a new platformer advertising itself with Prince of Persia branding. After sinking quite a few hours into this game's early acces and trying out the 1.0 update I can confidently say that The Rogue Prince of Persia is an exceptional rogue-lite with great platforming, fast-pased action, good art direction and some really memorable music. If you just want to know if this game is worth trying out, then i can wholeheartedly recommend it and if, by chance, you are looking for a more in-depth review then I will do my best to give you that as well.
Gameplay
At it's core The Rogue Prince of Persia (TRPP) is an action-platformer with rich movement mechanics. You can run, jump and attack with a weapon of your choice of course, but the game also allows you to do more engaging stuff. You can dodge, which gives you no i-frames by itself but if by dodging you move into an enemy, the Prince will do a vault which in turn grants him momentary invi...

This game is a banger ! BUT it may not be not what you expect from a roguelite ! Not a bold statement to write that this game has one of the best movement in any video game and that it will be an inspiration in other games. Must has been very difficult to fine tune ! Art, Gameplay, Animation, Music are amazing - to name a few. Congrats to the all the persons involve ! BUT, - It's The Rogue Prince of Persia, NOT Dead Cells, NOT Hades, etc... - don't expect "high replayability" like you do from other games of the genre - The game is mostly straightforward, you follow a linear story that makes you go into different biomes, which let you finish the game. By then you may have tested most of the game features and possibilities - There are weapons / tools / medaillons synergies, enemies diversities but you'll quickly see them all Don't expect to theory craft a lot ! - This game is not "difficult", if you're familiar with the genre and you're looking for challenge you may be d...

This feels like a rogue-lite built to stretch playtime rather than deliver real replayability. Every run plays out the same: identical enemies, no varied compositions, and predictable pacing. Encounters quickly become monotonous, to the point of being dull. Weapons barely differ from each other, and medallions mostly provide flat stat boosts with little impact on gameplay. Runs lose depth fast and become repetitive after just a few attempts. Compared to something like Hades, the lack of variety stands out even more: no unique weapon playstyles, no meaningful upgrades, no diverse enemy pools, not even mini-bosses. Overall, the game misses the core of what makes a rogue-lite engaging—variety, unpredictability, and evolving playstyles—and falls into monotony far too quickly.

What this game has going for it is the price, and gameplay is overall fun. However, the UI bugs are terrible. Right now the big, main one is... health is hardly displayed correctly. It happens every run where my health bar isn't synced up correctly, meaning it's showing that I have way more health than I actually do. It's terrible and has been a run killer many times. Weapons all feel the same to me too. It doesn't feel that unique compared to Dead Cells. People calling this a Dead Cells 2 is absolutely leading you astray. It's not. This "v1.0" feels more like a DLC for Dead Cells content wise. The gameplay quickly becomes shallow. I wouldn't recommend, but I do feel like I got my $30 worth.
The Gene of Dead Cells, The Parkour of Prince of Persia
The team behind all the amazing Dead Cells expansion has done it again! The Rogue Prince of Persia is the perfect mix-up of Dead Cells fast-paced combat and tricky parkour of Prince of Persia series. I admit I wasn't sure about his game at first. Making a roguelite spinoff to a classic IP dormant for years sounds like a difficult journey. Fortunately Evil Empire proves me wrong. This game is amazing. Combat is solid, and the mobility is satisfyingly fluid. The dev team has been working hard to refine the game during the early access period, and it shows! The Rogue Prince of Persia is one of the best action platformer roguelite and I highly recommend it.
Things I Like About The Rogue Prince of Persia:
1. Combat & Parkour The bread and butter of any action roguelite, and an agile one too.

If you played Dead Cells before, you would be feel right at home. The flow of combat is swift and snappy. Th...

Overall - A tier - A solid game and a easy recommendation to any roguelike / deadcells fan, just lacks the longer term depth and replayability to make it S tier. To be honest I don't write reviews, I more just wanted to provide some meta-commentary. This game isn't exactly GOTY contender nor anything that re-defines indie gaming but it is a solid, made with love, polished experience that I would easily recommend to anyone who likes roguelikes / deadcells. Thus it brings me great sadness to see the Steam player counts so low (recent peak was ~500 players). I can only guess as to the reasons here but if I were to speculate: Release timings EA was released right after Hades-2 and the 1.0 release was done the day before Silksong had its big release reveal at gamescon. Both of these have absolutely stolen all of the oxygen of the gaming media & player attention. Also the 1.0 release felt like it just came out of nowhere, that is there was no build or hype. Perhaps with somethi...

It's very disappointing to post a negative review for this as I was rather looking forward to it. It's not fundamentally a bad game, but also it very clearly shouldn't have left early access. It's almost impossible to go five minutes without encountering some bug or another. Your health bar seemingly has no actual relation to the current health you have. I've seen my healthbar overflowing while at low hp, I've seen my health bar almost empty while at full hp. Best just to ignore it all together. The meta currency you collect while playing has to be deposited. This is supposed to be signified as two numbers side by side. The amount you have on you beside the amount you've deposited. However, sometimes after depositing your currency the amount of currency you have on you seemingly doesn't go down but the currency deposited goes up. This doesn't actually net you any benefit as eventually it rectifies itself, but it's confusing nonetheless. These first two are pretty trivial and speak ...

Its a great roguelite, sadly very underrated even with a big IP attached to it - just buy it!
