A Vast Universe
Set in the year 2088, humanity has discovered it’s not alone in the universe. Worse yet, it is catastrophically unprepared to deal with what's out there. In response, Star Control is formed and the player is selected to command the crew of the U.E.S. Vindicator.
Star Control: Origins takes place in a huge living universe just waiting to be explored. Players will find their time split between exploring distant solar systems, landing on exotic planets, navigating hyperspace, and interacting with alien species.

I feel bad the developers wasted such a great opportunity to release a successful reboot of this series. Here is the issue with the game: it lacks engaging mechanics. It becomes very repetitive fast with no clear objective. Given how many good games are out there, even if this game was free, its just not worth your time to play. I don't understand how a "game" development company in this day and age would not understand basic game design mechanics. They basically compiled a lot of disjointed features together and expect the player to spend countless hours doing the same silly things over and over again. I rather walk outside listening to music than play this game hahaha.

It says I only played for two hours but it felt like a whole lot longer. In a couple hours I did not feel any sense of progress, had no clear idea of what progress looks like, and did not feel compelled to dig deeper. There is a tremendous amount of very shallow content here and I did not feel engaged or interested at all. Also, I don't have many games with cutscenes and now I remember why.

A worthy successor to Star Control ][. Contains similar humor, exploration, and thoughtful/epic stories, just on a smaller scale. I enjoyed it a bit less than SC ][ but far more than SC 3.
