Laminar Research releases X-Plane 11.50 final
Laminar Research, creator of the X-Plane flight simulator franchise, is proud to announce the final Vulkan/Metal update of X-Plane 11. After many months of converting our graphics engine and beta testing, we are today announcing the final release of version 11.50 for the X-Plane desktop platform.
Vulkan (PC) and Metal (Mac) are rendering level APIs that change how X-Plane interacts with the graphics card. They are faster than OpenGL that X-Plane has used in the past. Overall, most users will see improved frame rates and reduced stutters when using Vulkan or Metal.
In X-Plane 11.50, there is a check-box in the graphics settings that enables Vulkan or Metal, and a restart of X-Plane is necessary for the change to take effect. If for some reason a user can’t use Vulkan or Metal, OpenGL is still available by simply unchecking the box.
Numerous bug fixes, enhancements, and new airports are also included in this release.

User Reviews
the simulator is extremely realistic and this is my first time using a real flight simulator ever and by first time, I mean i'm 11 years old and it is a great feeling to use, even for the first time. I do recommend this to other players, even if you are not a pilot or even experienced at all. The only downside is that it could have a bigger variety of aircraft, but other than that, AMAZING.
A very fun simulator with a lot of potential. I loved the ease of menus and the graphics fidelity at the time of release.
Really good game though there is X-Plane 12 which is even better, for the price it is awesome, definitely would recommend getting the new game since it has more features though.
way better than MSFS
Ok
pla
it may be old, but it's still great! If you have a low end PC or Laptop, I think it's good for the price!
WARNING! DOESN'T WORK ON LINUX AND WILL NEVER WORK! The studio has officially said they dropped support for Linux. No idea why the game is still marked as supported. XP11: Advertised “Linux support,” effectively broken on current Linux On Ubuntu 25.04 (MATE, X11) with an RTX 3080 (driver 575), X-Plane 11 hangs during load (“Will init net”). This isn’t a one-off: Laminar’s own KB says Linux kernel 6.9 broke XP11 and that XP11 is !!not receiving updates anymore!!, offering only a workaround: https://www.x-plane.com/kb/fixing-x-plane-11-getting-stuck-on-will-init-net-on-linux/ Yet the Steam page still lists “SteamOS + Linux” support: https://store.steampowered.com/app/269950/XPlane_11/ So yes, it’s *sold* as supporting Linux, but XP11 is unmaintained and fails on current kernels. If you’re on modern Linux, expect it not to run. (XP12 still gets Linux fixes; XP11 does not.) Or you would need a special system just to run the game, but you might as wel...
very good even for today
