About This Game

Secrets of Grindea is an old-school Action RPG with co-op support for up to 4 players. It is a tribute to and sometimes a parody of the old SNES games so many of us grew up with and loved! Journey through fantastical lands, and battle tons of different enemies and bosses in your quest for truth, friendship and, above all, finding the world's rarest treasures!

Key Features

  • A rich world filled with 300+ unique, colorful characters and an engaging story to drive your journey forward.
  • Co-op support for up to four players! Enjoy the entire storyline with your friends or call someone in to help with the more difficult challenges.
  • Customization, customization, customization - design a character that represents you, then mix and match any of the 31 spells and skills across 9 different categories.
  • 30+ epic boss fights! Overgrown slimes, giant robots, mimics - we have it all!
  • Side content - design your own home, fish, craft items, tame pets, partake in mini-games, grow plants - there’s plenty to keep you entertained when you want a break from the main story.

And last but not least:

  • Arcade Mode - Separate from Story Mode, the game includes a full roguelite version where you need to battle your way to the top on a single life, building a town of your own as you progress. How far can you get?

Its okay, I expected more after so many years of development. Builds are super shallow and boring and the overall gameplay loop is kinda dull. Its missing something and overall is kinda boring. Bosses are good though!

It claims to be "Secrets of Grindea is an old-school Action RPG" In an old-school Action RPG you can use the loot you get. In Grindea roughly 80% of the Monster Drops are useless gimicks. Lots of game mechanics are copied from other games and integrated into Grindea without a real reason why they are even in there. In example - fishing. We do have a fishing minigame that is roughly interesting for a few minutes just for the sake of having it and for achievements. There is no other purpose for it. The world is lovely decorated but lacks ... the old school - it´s not interesting enough. No real exploring, more like a straight path, lots of decoration and lots of constant re-spawning monsters in the same scene to enhance the grind. One can build and decorate your own house. Another interesting game mechanic that we work for in this game - grind to decorate! But ... why? Just to have it. Like the fish - integrated into the game with some "work for it grind" to burn time of the play...

Secrets of Grindea is a nostalgic love letter to classic action RPGs, blending the pixel-perfect charm of 16-bit-era aesthetics with modern gameplay mechanics and a self-aware, comedic tone. Developed by Pixel Ferrets, this indie title has been in early access for several years, and it steadily cultivated a devoted fanbase through its careful balance of lighthearted narrative, tight combat, and deep customization. While it wears its inspirations—such as The Legend of Zelda, Secret of Mana, and Chrono Trigger—proudly on its sleeve, Secrets of Grindea establishes its own identity by mixing fast-paced gameplay with an unexpectedly robust skill system and a world rich in personality. The game begins with a simple premise: you’re a young aspiring Collector, joining the prestigious Collector’s Exam to earn your place among the treasure hunters of the world. However, what starts as a seemingly traditional RPG journey quickly spirals into a far more whimsical and self-referential adve...

Absolutely phenomenal game. Great in both single and multi-player and "arcade" mode is super fun as well (with a whole different village to develop and upgrade!) Pacing is really good and you unlock more content as you progress. Well-written, funny, fantastic gameplay loop. Flexible builds with a bunch of mix and match skills (I favor a summoning build to fit my preferred playstyle, but I did a fast attack with status effects build and that was fun too.) Respeccing is easy and cheap.

What a great game. I put this game on my wish list many years ago when it was early access and never bought it until recently. I am glad I finally bought this game. There are 2 modes when you boot up, story and Arcade. It is recommended that you play story first (which I also recommend) but you don't have to. Story mode is an RPG where you adventure forth in Grindea. Grinding isn't necessarily required to beat the game...but you will probably end up doing a bit of that if you want the true ending. You can play around with the mechanics due to being able to take points away from some skills and putting it into others (for a little gold). Arcade mode isn't a "one off" mode either. It is essentially a rouge-like. You get to rebuild the town from scratch and earn perks along the way. I don't really understand the recent "mixed" reviews, but just give it try. There is a lot of content here. For reference, I beat the game (not quite 100% completion) and played about 5-6 hours of arcade at th...

I dont usually rate games but SoG has me feeling some sort of way. It was fun to make builds,do side quests, listen to funny gags BUT what really had me? Card collecting. Nothing made me happier than seeing a card pop out of an enemy, had me instantly hooked. SoG 2? SoG clone? would love more. Great game 10/10.
