Wings of Endless

Each playable character is unique. Switching between characters in real-time during combat makes for some fun boss fights. Multiple endings. Thoughtful story. Totally worth checking out.

Starts strong, falls apart quickly. The combat and navigating the intro dungeon was good, because the first character is good, but then you go out into the world. - The second character is awful, aside from her ability to use a smoke bomb to go invisible, which is necessary to avoid fire traps. You will immediately switch back to the first character after. - The first major boss is such a massive difficulty spike. Huge health pool with an attack that destroys you unless you're standing on a safe platform. Halfway through they add a fire trap on that platform. The Burn status effect makes you take more damage from attacks. Oh I'm dead. - There are way too many spikes. I'm fine with spikes if they're placed with intention, but it really feels like the level designers just had a quota for how many jumps had to be annoying. If it looks interesting to you, play the demo and pretend that's the whole game.

Pretty good game if you like to hunt for treasure without a map and only clues. Otherwise it's a disorganized mess, especially in the late game where you get no guidance on critical items and locations to get the "good ending". A mix of horrible imbalanced enemies and boss that become long winded damage sponges and items you can miss and never find, makes this a frustrating exercise. Would not recommend at all.

Wings of Endless looks real nice.. the pixel art and environments are seriously a treat. Swapping between characters mid-fight feels great, but the controls are a bit clunky and the difficulty ramps up fast. Some areas feel unfair or just confusing, especially later in the game. Still, if you’re into stylish indie action-RPGs, there’s a lot to like here:)
