I downloaded this thinking it would be a peaceful farming sim to relax between more intense games. I now have a tiny robot empire running at the bottom of my screen 24/7 while I pretend to work, and I'm pretty sure my productivity has either increased 400% or decreased into negative numbers. My boss thinks I'm extremely focused on spreadsheets. Little does he know I'm optimizing carrot production ratios. This game runs in a tiny window at the bottom of your screen, which sounds innocent until you realize it's basically digital crack that you can consume while doing literally anything else. I've been 'working from home' for 6 months, but really I've been managing a robot farm while occasionally typing important-sounding emails between harvest cycles. Rusty is the most wholesome robot protagonist in gaming history. He went from industrial automation to farming because he wanted a peaceful retirement, and honestly, that's the energy I need in my life. Meanwhile, I've turned his peaceful r...

About This Game
Rusty's Retirement is an idle-farming simulator designed to sit at the bottom of your screen allowing you to work on other tasks while caring for your farm!
Grow crops:
Plant crops and watch Rusty get to work as he waters, nurtures, and harvests. Unlock new crops as you progress, from crispy carrots to ripe tomatoes.
Produce biofuel:
Use crops to produce clean and energy-efficient biofuel, a vital robot power source. Sell biofuel to other machine inhabitants and reinvest the money into expanding your farm.
Automate with robots:
Deploy a team of cute little robots to assist with planting, watering, and harvesting. Customize and upgrade your helper bots to increase efficiency.
Multitasking:
Rusty's Retirement is built to sit comfortably at the bottom of your screen allowing you to do other tasks while caring for your farm. Zoom in or out for a less distracting view, or alternatively turn on 'Focus Mode' which slows down crop production.
Vertical mode:
You can also create a new vertical farm that sits comfortably at the side of your screen.
Twitch Integration available:
Streamers and viewers can build a farm together. Viewers can control what task their robot should focus on through chat commands like !plant !water !harvest.

This is Rusty. They sit at the bottom of the screen quietly judging my lack of progress on my dissertation. They’ve single-handedly cultivated an empire capable of feeding a small nation, rebuilt the agricultural backbone of the post-apocalyptic world, and ushered in a new golden age of robotic farming… all in the time it’s taken me to wrestle with one paragraph and delete it in shame. Rusty doesn’t complain. Rusty doesn’t procrastinate. Rusty is everything I aspire to be, and everything I am not. At this point, they’re closer to graduating than I am.
I love getting addicted to casual/idle games so was excited to pick this up because of the outstanding reviews. Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. All too often lately a game that describes itself as "relaxing" is just a red-flag for it not having much meaningful content. In Rusty's Retirement, you buy a plot of land then plant seeds on it. Your robots will water and harvest the crops but can't plant them, so you need to check back every few minutes to plant more for them. After what seems like an eternity you have enough cash to buy another plot of land, which... you can plant more seeds on. This is literally the entire game. I don't know what the other reviewers are smoking. The top review talks about "optimising carrot production yields" and "redesigning the farm so his bots don't get stuck on trees". None of this is present in the game. If you want more carrots you buy more land and plant more carrots. The only tree you can place is a Christmas tree, and your bots clip rig...
It was "alright" But it annoys me that you have to restart/create a new save file everytime they have new contents/collaborations. I made a mistake by adding the "automatic replating" feature which you cant turn off at all, and it becomes boring so-very-fast. You dont have to do anything. Literally nothing. Just open the game and let it run in the background to generate money which you can use to buy decorations, etc etc, forever and ever. They also wont allow you to remove farm animals once you have them. Annoying, simply annoying.
Its chill idle game, but giant crops takes too many clicks to pop. It really don't make sense for an idle game requiring you to click so many times on crops to harvest it.
Great little background game. An idle game as it was meant to be... Idle. My biggest gripe is that you can't switch your farm between vertical and horzontal mode on your farm, but that is something that they could patch at a later date (it is also a pretty minor gripe). The Balatro crossover is actually a massive improvement over the base game. I would highly recommend this.
This game is insanely cutesy and fun, decoration a little farm on the bottom of your screen as you slowly upgrade your farms with automation and robots is a cool idea. This game was tons of fun through college allowing me to have a semi distraction while writing papers but still mot drawing lots of attention away. HUGE BONUS is that the developer is an insanely cool dude ive reached out to talk about the games hes made that ive loved (rustys and Haiku) and was super cool, down to earth, and grateful. He also does community outreach for certain opinions about the development of certain choices in his games. Couldnt recommend his games enough defintely worth it!
Hi I'm back to review a game again (i've been lazy teehee) Good game! It stays at the bottom of your screen and it was nice for when I wanted to mostly idle/play something on the side as I did other stuff, fleshed out fairly well, got a few updates as well, it's been having some fun lil collabs as well! overall it's definitely worth the price tag, and is nice to pick up with sales as well!
Perfect AFK/Idle game that plays on the side or bottom of your screen. I'm a huge multitasker and this has/is the best game for that, I play this with OSRS while playing xbox games.
this game is a very satisfying farm idler where you get your usual cute crops, fruit and livestock. 100000000/10. very simple and it's been helping me chill out while doing my daily tasks :)
