About This Game

PLAY THE DEMO FIRST!!! It's the first 10-20 hours of the game, with full multiplayer, and your progress carries over into the full game.

New World to Discover: Start as a young, unaffiliated captain with an entire world open for exploration. Every campaign features a unique, procedurally generated map, ensuring no two games are alike.

Play Solo or Co-op: Brave the seas alone or sail with friends, the choice is yours.

Trade, Quest, or Wander: Engage in peaceful trading, take on quests for various factions, fish the seas, or dive for hidden treasures. Prefer a quieter life? You can simply sail and enjoy the open waters.

Dynamic World Impact: Towns and provinces need resources to grow. Supplying them leads to prosperity, while faction leaders will involve you in their agendas. Helping one may hinder another, and enough support can even let a faction leader take control of a province—without a single cannon being fired.

Fully Customizable Ships: Build the ship that suits your style, whether it’s a tough juggernaut that can take a beating, a quick schooner that rains fire from afar, or a support vessel keeping allies afloat. Swap out cannons for extra armor and turn your ship into a ramming juggernaut if that’s your thing.

Diverse Talent Trees: As you level up, unlock talent points to enhance Defense, Offense, or Support specializations. Each tree offers unique abilities and sub-paths, and you can mix talents across specializations to create powerful, personalized builds.

Crew & Captains: Expand your toolkit by recruiting crew, mates, and captains—each bringing their skills to your ship.

Upgrade & Expand: The gold you earn isn’t just for supplies, it’s your ticket to bigger and better ships, from nimble Schooners to powerful Frigates and versatile Brigantines. Follow storylines to unlock even more unique ships.

Forge Your Path: Whether you aim to be a feared pirate, a master trader, or a loyal faction ally, it's up to you!

Designed for Co-op: While the journey is yours, it’s even better with friends. Windward Horizon was built with co-op in mind, so bring your crew, set sail, and experience the chaotic endgame together!

I hope to change my review at some point, but for now I can't recommend this game. In short, it feels like a grind-heavy early-access title that sacrifices player experience for play-time bragging rights. Specific Critiques: Content - The game doesn't have a lot of content. It's almost all side-quests, or side-quests masquerading as main missions. There are a couple of main missions that are unique, but those are extremely few and far between and tend to be pretty convoluted. "Find the girl in this painting" and no quest marker lol. The rest of the content focuses on building up your settlements so that you can get "better" ships and equipment. Better is in quotations because the game doesn't have much in the way of improvement because it seems to be developed under the mindset that "everything must have a trade-off". Wow, you found a cannon that will do a ton more damage! Too bad it won't hit anything. Overall, the game just feels very empty. There are a ton of NPCs running a...

The game is worth the price, and the combat is very nice. Sadly, that's where it stops being good. I know the game is early, but there's no story, no progression with factions. NPCs often lack understanding of their actions. Half of them ram your boat and get you killed by pinging you to a wall. I wish this game were online. dont be fooled, all the ships that join you in co op are NPCs I wish they had a public dedicated server; even if it were 30 players per server, it would be more enjoyable to set up guilds and create groups.

I try to keep reviews in line with the price of a game, and this is absolutely a $20+ game. It's perfect for anyone who likes an ARPG, fun mechanics and an overall good experience. It's not like a $60 game, it's simple and kind of easy, but there's plenty to experience here. My perspective is that anyone who plays this will get $20 out of it, if you get it on sale even better. But I'm still hooked at 11 hours, these days that's pretty incredible for the price.

This game is fun. Slight learning curve out of the gate, had to watch a youtube video on what to do but now that I got the hang of it I absolutely recommend.

Brilliant game! So much enjoying the old-school interface. A game without monetisation - thank you! I am 20 hours in and have loved every moment. Super helpful in-game community got me going by answering all my questions. Thanks guys - you rock! Game is easy to get into with its richness coming out as the game progresses. The mechanics are very well thought out. In-game instructions have had me not reaching for a manual nor looking up the key-bindings. So good!

Seems fun. Repetitive, yes, but I'm only 7 hr in. Works well on steam deck, but I'm not a controller player, so works better on PC IMO. Not a game to throw yourself into a storyline, but a fun game to play an hour before bed and turn your brain off.

A brilliant successor to the original Windward game! This game is truly such a cozy, yet strategic experience. Trade, fight, develop, gear up, level up! It does feel like some sort of ship sailing MMO with the equipment slot system on the ships, the talent trees to choose between. Be a healer ship and throw water barrels on your allies, explosives on your enemies. Be a tank, soak the damages. Or just be a "regular" DPS and shoot down you foes with your cannons. Being on the official online server offers a more MMO-like experience, and is highly recommended! No PvP - Yet? Does the game need a few quality updates? Yes, yes it does! But the game in general, at the current price too is definitely worth it.
