The game is unbalanced – it's too easy to discover a set of cards that breaks the entire gameplay. There are many different elements that have very little impact on the game and only serve as distractions – for example, the 5-level card upgrading system, where higher levels barely make any difference. Character animations are virtually non-existent (it's a shame you can't turn off the scaling animations, as they become annoying over time). Mythical monsters have been reduced to punching bags. Most of the time, I felt the gameplay was chaotic – it was hard to estimate the damage from bleeding or other status effects. After three playthroughs, the game simply becomes boring instead of engaging.

Lovecraft skin, empty within. I somehow killed Azathoth with a brick and then returned the game.

Menace from the Deep is a fascinating blend of classic turn-based strategy and tactical combat set in a richly detailed underwater world. Drawing inspiration from the golden age of strategy games, it captures the tension and excitement of commanding a submarine fleet beneath the ocean’s surface. The game’s setting and mechanics come together to offer a compelling experience that challenges players to think carefully about positioning, resource management, and timing, all while exploring the mysterious depths teeming with danger. At the heart of Menace from the Deep is its turn-based tactical gameplay, which emphasizes careful planning over frantic reflexes. Players control a variety of submarines, each with distinct capabilities and roles, as they navigate complex underwater maps filled with hazards, enemy vessels, and strategic points of interest. The game demands thoughtful use of sonar, torpedoes, and movement, as well as a keen understanding of underwater terrain. Visibility i...

The post-release support is pretty obvious from the game I've been playing compared to some of the constructive criticism the game received at release. The art and music are really well done. The deck building has been fine - I'm not very good at these games so it takes me some time to settle into one - and I've been enjoying learning the archetypes and their base decks. I've just got to learn to stop bloating my decks with cards.

Menace from the Deep is basically “hey, what if water was even scarier than it already is?” And you know what? It Not. Really has nothing to do with water much far as i can tell. But Creepy sounds, weird shadows, and enough “oh crap”s to keep me sufficiently amused. My only gripe: not enough characters even with the expansion. i want more : FEED ME! Hurry! The joy of a Rouge-Like is that it presents a challenge and replay-ability and this one certain does that. Buy it full price, Buy it on sale, you're gonna like it.

Its Slay the Spire but Cthulhu. Good progression. The Story in Storymode doesnt really effect the gameplay, just the hub area and background so far. Good story but there is...this little thing. It keeps crashing. I am being lenient on this for the review because it could be on my end but my monitors just crash to black and I have to restart the game to keep playing. On that note: there is an appropriate auto save feature, which is nice. Give it a go. I plan to at least finish the basic game and maybe the DLC if I can get it at a good place, at that time.

I love Cthulian games that lean on being very difficult to play. They tend to surround itself with mystery and intrigue. However, this is not one of those games. After playing it after a few hours, it is clear that the game does not have enough interesting cards to play. The person you play is even just someone who will eventually perish in their attempt. It's extremely difficult to see how you can beat this game without a large degree of luck as there doesn't seem to be any mitigation from the cards or even the character classes. The combats are usually 1 vs many. The battles start out super difficult because of the extreme numbers disadvantage. However, once you kill one or 2 of them, then the battle will easier... albeit with great loss of HP or even sanity. That's the stinger though! Once again, there's no miracle card to come save you... no ruthless combination that you just couldn't setup. There wasn't any of that... just a bunch of hits or defense cards and t...

Cannot recommend enough! The art style and event writing is wonderful - the cards themselves feel nicely balanced and the addition of the relics/equipment means that each run could play out differently depending on the luck of the draw keeping things fresh and fun. It's a great game to sit and play when there's nothing much else to do as it requires thought without needing you to sit there sweating and stressing the entire time. Even in story mode it allows you to change the settings of your runs to fit to be either a casual or intense (I like to play with fuel off for example and shorter runs so I don't get too bored of one deck). The main story itself could be expanded upon but that's only a minor issue. I also love the new DLC and hope there will be more to come!! <3 Thank you!
