About the Game

Life Eater is a horror fantasy kidnapping simulator. Play as a modern-day druid living in suburbia, holding down a dead-end job to pay for your true vocation: conducting the annual ritual that keeps the world from ending.

To delay the end of the world, you must sacrifice a number of specific - but vaguely-described - human beings every year. Use a video editing-inspired interface to discover the story of your victims' lives, one schedule block at a time. Pry into the most intimate details of your targets' schedules, and when the time is right: abduct them before the authorities can find your lair. Time is short and your list of names is long. Choose your options wisely... and pray that the dark god you serve is even real.

Features:

  • Use an innovative "timeline" interface for a new kind of analog horror game.
  • Get to know the unsuspecting targets of your town, intimately.
  • Replayable blend of authored and generated stories.
  • Fully voiced story mode featuring Xalavier Nelson Jr. and Jarret Griffis.
  • Original atmospheric soundscape from David Mason, the composer of DREDGE.
  • An additional Endless mode, featuring decades of procedurally-generated targets.

this game becomes repetitive pretty quickly, and the stalking mechanic doesn't really feel like stalking. more of a click-here-and-guess typa thing, rather than actually stalking based on actual things. it's okay, maybe on a sale

Despite being short and the core gameplay mechanic being a little confusing at times (though im lowkey stupid), this is generally a very tight knit and pleasant game. I enjoy the story that it presents and if you want a short but very solid game to play with an interesting puzzle mechanic then by all means buy this game!

Fun game that makes you look for clues. The story itself was very short so I'd say maybe wait for the game to go on sale

A delightfully disturbing short story in video game form. I love the art, music, narrative, and voice-acting from the beginning to the end. I watched a video about this game, and even though I knew the plot from the start, I wanted to play it anyway with how morbidly fascinating I found the premise to be. As much as I adore those creative elements, the gameplay left me wanting a little more. It was fun figuring out the puzzles the first couple of chapters, but whenever I failed and had to redo a level, the "click and stalk" loop became kind of dull. Sure, the flavor text of what I find out about my target and the actions I do had me engaged, but other than that, it felt sort of meh. I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed having to remember facts about the target for the "Water the Flower" ritual, though. I like how that kept me on my toes, and I feel like that could be implemented even more. Making the player as paranoid as the protagonist can enhance the immersion and the feeling that...

Verdict: if the stalking sections interest you, buy full price. Otherwise, wait for a sale. I finished the game in a little under two hours, including all achievements. I'm not going to ask for my money back (it was a fun experience) but it's a short game. The story is interesting and the concept is fantastic. The stalking gameplay can be better understood as resource management, not puzzle solving. As resource management it's a bit forgiving but still challenging; you have to balance time and suspicion while uncovering as much as possible about your targets. I like it from that perspective, but found it a bit repetitive personally. The endless mode is where most of this game's value comes from. If you like the gameplay loop, it's definitely worth buying. Otherwise, the story is short enough that you should wait for a sale to buy.

In short: Highly recommend, took me a hot second to understand the gameplay but finished it in one go and had tears in my eyes at the end. In long: The story is very cool, straight up my alley! Music and Voice acting is absolute superb, Visually very nice. 10/10. I saw some reviews saying the gameplay is repetetive and/or not logical - and i see half why one would say that, but gotta disagree. I definetly believe some may have to give it some time, cause i struggled a bit. I failed a few times at the beginning till i fully understood how it works, but once i did i could speed through and really enjoy figuring out the connections i needed to find. While the gameplay is "just" managing sus level and time, i really liked how it still felt like something new with every level (like figuring out connections between potential victims etc.). Kinda keeps you on your toes to actually think about what you're doing. I'd say this is definetly a game for people who like puzzle/detective/thinking k...
