Enjoying it so far. This may not be everyone's cup of tea. It simulates sailing. I enjoy the whole world is modeled in the sim. Im actually doing a trip from Tampa to the Florida Keys as I write this review. There are multiple levels of difficulty based on your experience so even someone that has little knowledge can quickly pick up on what to do. The UI is a bit clunky but you get used to it. Hopefully development will continue to improve the experience.

About This Game
The most realistic sailing simulation game available. On a global scale, in real weather, ready to be explored. Made by a sailor, helped by the joined effort of sailors from all over the world.
-----
Sailaway comes with 2 basic boats (a 38' cruiser and the small Nordic Folkboat). The rest of the boats are made by other sailors like you and are sold separately by them. This also applies to most of the boats you see in these pictures and videos.

Compete in races organized by virtual sailing clubs. Sail on boats designed by fellow sailors. Trim your sails for the best performance.

Face the biggest storms, circumnavigate the globe or make that journey you always wanted to make. Push yourself to become a better sailor.
Not everything is about better, faster. Enjoy a comforting and relaxing experience. Sail at your own pace, in the part of the world you like best. All alone, with friends or with other like minded people. Sailors will relate to each other wherever you go.
Learn astronavigation with the build-in sextant. Experiment with finding the best sail trim by using the visualization of air flow along the sails. Learn navigation with the buoys and other seamarks that are all present on the map and in the world.
Design your own boat, create your own digital or analog instruments. Or create your own hardware set up with the build-in library of blocks, shackles and winches. Make the world a better place by creating ports and docks. Plant trees. Place 3d models of iconic lighthouses. Make tutorials for other sailors.
Sailaway provides the framework, the sailors fill it with content for all to enjoy. Join us and become part of something big!

User Reviews
the physics in this game are dumb... the rest is fine... Fix the physics devs... my keel boat shouldn't capsize basically ever... let alone every time there is 18 knots of wind...
Sailaway III isn’t just a game—it’s a commitment to a lifetime at sea, without ever leaving your chair. You don’t sail in Sailaway III—you live on your boat, in real-time, through real weather. When it’s blowing up outside? It's blowing up inside the game too :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}. Crossing an ocean? It takes weeks. Log off and your boat keeps sailing—probably into a storm, because why not? This is simcraft at its finest—hydro and airodynamics, visible airflow soothing your soul as you trim sails like a mad scientist. Want realism? Try navigating by sextant and stars in non-GPS mode like you're reenacting a 1700s explorer, with tides and currents that actually matter. You can build your dream boat or wreck it, design the world while screwing up a buoy edit for everyone. It’s an MMO Sailing Sim with global scale and real-time weather—but be warned: the servers are lightly populated (around ~17 average players recently). Sailawa...

I think any complaints about this simulator are unfounded. Any bugs or glitches I have experienced have been minor and I know they are getting fixed. The developer is a one man show, I think what he has built is amazing. The sailing experience is fantastic! The graphics are sharp. The water and environment look great. Boat and sail handling is great. I'm an inland sailor who always dreamed of being an offshore sailor, I can do that in this simulator! If you don't know how to sail, it may be challenging at first, but you'll pick it up quickly. It's a simulator not a game. The community is currently small, but fantastic. If you are into modding and customizing with Paint . net and Blender, you can make all sorts of things. Most of the boats are made by other players. They cost small amounts of money, but the base game is only $15 so I don't mind a bit. I'm having a lot of fun with this one.
