I'm disappointed by the lack of a 15-minute sex scene between Davy and Jones, but other than that, I have no complaints. I initially only picked up this game because Davy had a hot voice, but I stayed for the absolute banger of a gameplay. (Update because the devs responded to this - I'M SO SORRY FOR THIS REVIEW I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF 😭)

A good game. Awesome to play and visually striking. Ignore the negative reviews. People act like a game the price of 2 candy bars and in early access should be absolutely without flaws.
*Early Access day 1 review* I will be brutally honest because this game is really promising and I wish it to succeed. This is a pirate themed FPS adventure with the combat style of Painkiller with a grappling hook (which is kinda Doom Eternal, but Painkiller is closer imo) PROs: - The theme and the mood really hits the pirate spot - Art direction and art style are amazing, hats off - The voice acting (main characters) is very good, it's a joy to listen to the story - Characters well crafted and lovable - The sound (where there is) is top quality - Day 1 price is welcomed, thanks devs! CONs: - The lighting needs a another pass because it doesn't give enough justice to the amazing art (with pitch black areas sometimes) - Performance is okay buuut will definitely need polishing - Combat is terrible, unresponsive, often flow-stopping with terrible balance and not paced difficulty rise. Please hire (another) combat designer, sorry for my harshness - [Currently in EA] The world is lifeles...
How is this game only $6? Studio quality acting, AAA visuals, awesome mechanics. Props to the developer man. This game is awesome.
I can immediately tell this is something special. This game plays like a cross between DOOM and Devil May Cry, blending FPS gameplay with dashing and wonderfully brutal melee combat. There's a parry system, easy switching between slashing and blasting, and a skill tree as well. Where this game truly shines are through the story and world building. The character of Davy is fantastic, with great, charismatic voice acting. The world feels totally alien, yet familiar, as you're in a kind of bizarro ocean underworld. Little touches like star fish with teeth and fish skeletons drifting in the background really make it feel alive (despite everything being some definition of dead). I'm also already endeared to the dimwitted character of Jones, played by Davy's headless corpse. I can't wait to see where this game goes. As long as there are more acts added over time, this one is an absolute classic in the making. We need more original, risky, outlandish titles. And on that front, this e...
The performance is not good as of right now. I'll cut the game some slack as it's still in EA and even the demo didn't run great I remember. For me personally, the game crashed 3 times in the sequence after encountering Teach for the first time. Says some Unreal engine error. I am playing it on 2k res, med-high settings and getting 40-55 fps with frequent dips. My GPU is 3070ti laptop and R7 6800H. Not refunding it as I'm interested to see the progress of the game but to anyone considering buying, do read this review. I'll play one more time to see if the game doesn't crash this time and will update the review likewise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: The game did progress further in the 4th run. Performance issue still persists, though.
Could definitely use some polish, but it's early access and for just over $6 the art alone is worth it.
If you are a big fan of Borderlands especially "Tiny Tina's Wonderland" This game has that kind of charm to it. It really feels like a borderlands like game but in a very unique and incredible twist. For the price I paid which was less then $7 Its basically a steal. This game just really feels great. Of course its in early access but like I said I paid less then $10 and even at its full cost of $10 its still a bargain. It plays really well the performance is great the voice acting is perfect. This game really found a way to carve out its own name plate no game exactly hits where this game does. The uniqueness of having your head detached and being your voice and guidance and helper is so cool. The combat is definitely fun and engaging. No ammo is such a great feature you just blast and slash away its a really chill game not trying to be a super hard core souls like game. Sure it has mini bosses and bosses but nothing that seems overly hard to complete. Just buy the game i really mean ...
DAVY X JONES is a game that harkens back to the days of gaming that really allowed Single Player shine. There is no open world, no huge customization, not a million followers to care for and try to bed. It's just you and the story. Gameplay is tight and fluid giving you the power to feel like a whipping ball of blades, bullets, and cannonballs. Style is absolutely dripping from the environment and art style. While Early Access has a stigma most of the time, anyone privy enough to the singleplayer story rich scene can see the passion that has been poured into this gem.
Cautiously bought it and am playing it, and I like it. I like the artistic design compared to all the other realistic looking games. Voice acting is great!! I was cautious because of the price. This is easily a $30 game going for $10 AND on sale. There are some combat issues for me like the sword and gun feels anemic. I'm not sure if I need skill upgrades as I'm early on, but still a game should feel great on base stats. I like to support games and this is an easy one to support for the price. I say get it.
