About This Game

Maraka is an action-packed horde survival roguelite game featuring physics based combat. Delve into a procedurally generated cave system on an alien planet. Harness the power of magnets and the environment to wield as your weapon: defeat opponents by physically manipulating objects and the enemy itself.

The gameplay is focused on action-packed exploration and collection of resources within a complex system of caves on an alien planet called Maraka. You undertake missions, unlock new skills, explore new areas.

This new game comes from the developers of Urtuk: The Desolation.

Features

  • environment as your weapon
  • magnetic gun to pull, push, propel and activate special physical effects
  • fully destructible environment
  • procedural generation of huge cave complex
  • "extraction shooter": undertake missions to collect resources and craft new items
  • handmade graphics

What's the story?

You've been dispatched on a rescue mission to an uncharted, distant planet. While attempting to land, your spaceship's systems encounter disruptions, leading to a crash within an expansive network of caverns deep beneath the planet's surface. Your objective now is to uncover the fate of the previous expedition and find a way to escape this nightmarish location!

How to play?

You move your astro with WASD keys, and use mouse buttons for bashing (melee weapon/utility) and firing magnets. The magnets and magnetic forces are the highlights of the game - cleverly reposition objects, items and creatures in order to defeat them. There are many environmental hazards dangerous to creatures only, but NOT to you! Use them wisely!

There are many types of physical objects involved in gameplay, like big rolling spiked boulders, exploding mines, throwing lances, deadly metal shards and so on.. All of those are free to use. The walls within cave are fully destructible. Remember, bashing (LMB) is the least effective way to defeat an enemy. Just push/throw them into the spikes or onto a devouring plant. Or use combos with different status effects (stun, slow, electrolit,..) to apply extra damaging effects.

A really neat mechanic without much of a game attached. One run feels much like another, there's no real goal you're working towards, and the difficulty does not meaningfully progress past a few levels deep. Early resource grinding and picking the permanent passive upgrades at every opportunity can snowball you to the point where death is implausible; most of my playtime is in a single run that got very safe and very samey and only ended because of a crash.
