i wanted to like it but, as it stands, i cant justify spending time on this over any of the other games in my backlog. it really did not leave an impression. i kept waiting for it to do anything to break up its own monotony, but after dashing through the fiftieth room, i decided to give up. plus, the gun feels bad, and dashing is awkward. im glad people like it though, i can definitely see the potential and i wish the devs nothing but success. its just not for me. i understand that the story is sparse on purpose, but that only works if the game successfully intrigues you into wanting to uncover more of the story, and i did not feel the least big intrigued. the whole game just felt vague if youre interested in the game, i certainly recommend trying it out. im glad i tried it out. theres a good chance it will click with you, it just didnt with me

About This Game
Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, hoping to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease.
• From each character to subtle background elements, everything is lovingly hand-animated.
• Easy to pick up, difficult to master; enemies are vicious and numerous, hazards will easily crush your frail body, and friendly faces remain rare.
• Upgrade weapons, learn new skills, discover equipment and traverse a dark, detailed world with branching paths and secrets abound.

the first game that made me uninstall the cracked version in order to buy it thus leaving me with a uniquely bugged progression, I Love this GAME BEYOND WORDS,
Pretty fun game with really good visuals. Unfortunately got the ending spoiled due to Indie Cross episode 2, but that didn't ruin the experience majorly, infact it probably enhanced the experience.
So after beating the game i decided to write a review of my experience. In general i don't really recommend this game to anyone except probably hardcore fans of this specific genre (dungeon crawling + getting lost on exploration) as most of the game you will simply do the things mentioned in the parentheses. OVERALL: 4/10 ART: 10/10 This game looks gorgeous and is probably one of if not THE best use for pixel art i have seen in a game (although this is subjective ofc). STORY: 2/10 In this game you play as a person that is in the brink of death due to his illness, who fights their way through a world corrupted by darkness and machines, trying to restore the light and bring back the peace... or at least that's all i got from this. The game explores the story of the world through images either given to you by npcs or through small cutscenes that usually tease the final boss. There weren't many cutscenes or npcs to actually tell any compelling story and while some people will see th...
I am just sad I cannot discover this game for the first time again. First things first: I played it completely solo with a controller. Playing through the story, learning about the developer, searching hidden stuff and currently hunting achievements - it was and still is a blast. Seriously, if you like "The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past" and favour the likes of "DARK SOULS" with a pinch of post apocalyptic fantasy sci-fi hybrid á la GHIBLI's "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds" and "Castle in the Sky" then this is your game. It is amazing how much one is able to bring together in terms of art style choice, sound design and story telling with just a few simple pixels. Proud to say that this masterpiece may be my favourite game of all time because of all just mentioned and combining everything I love. Is it perfect? Surely not. You could tweak a little here and there, but that is really minor in my opinion. Would I recommend...
This game has its ups and its downs What makes this game amazing is despite the lack of dialogue between the characters and figuring out the lore from bits and pieces given to you through the monoliths is a unique way of storytelling and I like it! The soundtrack is very lovely for this game and I heavily appreciate the pixel art style this game has. I'm sure maybe some people can resonate with drifter with their terminal disease and suffering it throughout the game. There are some gripes I can say about it, such as the fact that you may get absolutely crushed by the enemies and could maybe get stunlocked. Another being that if you're completing the game with all gearbits than it is frustrating to track down where the last few are in the game. Other than the small nitpicks I have gameplay wise, this game is worth experiencing and that I would recommend for anyone who likes a dungeon crawling/exploration game like this!! 9/10
One of the games I really tried to get into but just couldn't. There's something wrong with combat I can't really explain exactly, it just feels wrong and clunky. The visuals and overall art are nice but sadly it's not enough to carry the whole experience as a whole. Besides I'm not really huge fan of pure visual storytelling which this game heavily relies on. If the things I've listed aren't a deal breaker for you, it's worth giving a try. But I personally don't recommend it.
Hyper Light Drifter is a masterclass in visual storytelling, atmosphere, and design, developed by Heart Machine and led by Alex Preston. It’s a game that speaks volumes without saying a single word, weaving a narrative through cryptic imagery, environmental cues, and haunting soundscapes. At its core, it’s an action RPG with fast-paced combat and exploration, but its real magic lies in how it creates a world that feels simultaneously desolate and alive, beautiful and threatening, full of history yet lost to time. The player takes on the role of the Drifter, a silent, cloaked figure suffering from a mysterious and terminal illness. From the opening cinematic, it's clear that this is a world broken by violence and cataclysm, filled with remnants of ancient technology and ruins of forgotten civilizations. The story is told entirely without dialogue or text, relying instead on expressive visuals and symbolic cutscenes. This choice forces players to pay close attention to their surroun...
This is a review about the current native Linux version

Technical difficulties
The game is listed on the Steam store as supporting Linux OS. At least with my distro (Mint) that proved almost false advertising. 4 Versions are available: The "stable" build (from July 2017) crashed after about 30 minutes. "next_update" and "last_update" after about 90 minutes. "controller_test" runs stable, but has fps drops, which doesn't work with the games requirement for precise timing and rythm. Performance is hit or miss. Even with specs above the minimum listed the game struggled sometimes to keep 30 fps. And 30 seems to have at least some input lag that can really be a PITA. Other issues exist as well. The map is pretty, but basically useless. Without third party help (An interactive map I used after about 2 hours and a tool to show the missing collectibles) collecting all the items would be almost impossible. Savegames are not natively portable from Linux to Windows, ...
