User Reviews
I bought this as a bundle so that me and my friends could play it, but even with them, it couldn't save my experience of Serious Sam 4. Right from the start, the way the game looked and played was just horrible. On the visual side of things, the game had constant graphical glitches and also just looked incredibly bad regardless of how high the settings were. On the playing side of things, it just wasn't nearly as fun as previous iterations. At times it just felt like a chore to get through the levels since the one thing that the Serious Engine was amazing with, was creating large, empty spaces of nothing to do. The hordes only came much later, towards the end of the game. I would only recommend playing 1-3 and giving this one a huge skip. If they plan on continuing the series, they definitely need to come up with new ideas and better writers. Every cut-scene conversation or in-game comment felt terribly forced and acted. I could care less what the story was about since I wasn'...
I wanted to try and like this game, I really hoped I'd be able to simply ignore whatever new "modern" content they've added to it but it's literally impossible. I really hate the NPC the second I went past the obnoxiously cheesy intro, I can't tell if the game is trying to be serious or a soap opera because each character just spouts forced one-liners which feels like it's the only dialogue you'll get out of them. At least Serious Sam 3 tried to be, well, serious and keep cutscenes to a minimum, such as on start/end of levels or very important levels like finding an important item or a short boss introduction. The detail in the environments is nice if you do nothing for a living but cherrypick game quality based on their graphics alone and make countless unfair videos about it for your youtube channel. Serious Engine wasn't made for this, it was made for allowing countless enemies to be displayed, in motion and to have relatively basic thinking without sacrificing optimisation...
Classic Serious Sam. Worth the money!
"Game play over Graphics", which is a truth that should be more prevalent in the world of gaming. Serious Sam is the direction Duke Nukem should have taken way back when, combing extreme shoot em up game play with a testosterone ridden male protagonist. A solid experience, which adds new weapons and mobs periodically to keep things interesting.
IMO, this is the best Serious Sam game, however die hard fans of the "classic" Serious Sams may not be pleased. The level direction takes a very different turn in this one, with more free roaming and fewer arena lock-ins. The *immense* battlefields allowing for varied strategic approaches, like the Memphis levels in TFE but greatly scaled up, were a great new direction IMO, but many fans of the old games seem to not be fans. What no one can deny is that the game's gunplay is some of the best ever. The dual-wielding system on offer here is incredible.
+ Better than Serious Sam 3 in most ways. + New weapons and toys are cool. Combat can get fun. - Even after a couple of years, after multiple patches, this game still feels unpolished. - Story is ok at the best. It's another prequel. The series is over 20 years old and we are never going to fight against Mental. Characters are mediocre, voice acting is servicable but the dialogues are cringey and jokes aren't even funny. Croteam doesn't have good writers, nor they think about getting some. You can skip most of the cutscenes and lose nothing valueable. - Normal difficult should be Normal, there are already higher difficulties. No need for Normal difficulty to be harder. - Gameplay can feel inconsistent. At certain points they throw everything at you but there's no balance so you have trouble with prioritizing the enemies. Only buy and play if you like Serious Sam series, yet you can still feel dissappointed.
That great fight fight fight serious Sam. Now it is in middle of Rome. Graphics is awesome and game play equally good.
absolute chaos, a game where you can't take a break. must play...
Do not like it trash
