KH3 this is not, it does not live up to the expectations, even more so due to the 14 year wait since KH2. Still the game is a lot better than any of the spin-offs, so it's not bad. However, it's KH3 in name only.

fun to play, but base game is too easy and dlc is just plain bs hard. Not even close to fair.

*** SPOILERS AHEAD READ AT YOUR OWN RISK *** Bad writing since Dream Drop Distance and this one is no exception. How am I supposed to care about dead characters in previous episodes if they keep coming back to life and in the end no one actually dies ? When your story writing relies only on fan service and recycling characters or events you know quality and creativity definitely dropped down. KH 1: had Heartless and Darkness KH 2: had Nobodies and The Void who were ambiguous and wanted hearts (you could feel sorry for them) Birth By Sleep: Origins and Tragedies well put together for good emotional damage also introduced the unversed 358/2 Days: Ultra emotional damage and better understanding of nobodies Dream Drop Distance: Lets recycle everybody and bring them back to life while not caring about previous reasons for them to exist or act OMG they were manipulated by him or him and actually blablabla => Insert Uno Reverse Card Anime Twist to sabotage already ...
I beat this game last year around this time, I had so many thoughts running through my mind regarding this title that I ended up writing nothing. My initial thought was "wow, I hate it", then after thinking a bit more abot it I started to think "actually it's not too bad". It does have more modern movies covered as you can tell by the screenshots on the storepage, like
Frozen
What initially gave me lots of mixed feelings is the direction of the main plot that I was invested in. It has the trope I hate the most in fiction
Revival. Reviving all the people inside sora,it honestly took away from the impact those deaths had
I had mixed feelings regarding the ending and the setup for KH4 too, I'm not sure what to think about all those decisions. I also initially didn't like Sora's personality in this entry, however after thinking about it more, it stopped bothering me as much. There are lots of events that shaped him in various ways, like [spoi...

I waited 14 years from when I first completed KH2 until the release of this game, and let me tell you it was not worth it. All the charm has evaporated. Every piece of dialog is stilted and cringeworthy. There is an anime grunt every 5 seconds throughout every cutscene. The number of worlds was disappointing. The settings of the worlds was disappointing. Of the 3 returning worlds, only 1 of them was anywhere close to as fun as it was in the previous title. The combat is the high point of a very low quality gameplay loop. Floaty and braindead on the lower difficulties, with serious balance issues on critical mode. I played every single Kingdom hearts game except for KH unchained x, and I have played this game twice now, and I still cannot understand multiple elements of the story. I cannot tell what is supposed to be a mystery and what is some obscure plot point from a side game that I may have forgotten. And god forbid you expect the DLC to clear anything up. If anything it...
If you liked the first two games I cannot recommend this one at all. It suffers from the same problem that all the spinoffs did: bloat of combat gimmicks. Despite the main story beat starting with sora being weakened he has access to room clearing attacks whose systems and even existence make next to no sense. You'll clear entire rooms while being completely invulnerable and not having earned such a massive attack. You don't feel like you're actually participating in the combat 90% of the time which is a shame because the combat itself feels just as good as the other two games.... when you aren't riding a giant garish pirateship or deleting entire rooms with multiple super spells. I also can't recommend getting the combo pack of the KH1/2 because of the constant crashing that square enix is apparently never going to acknowledge or fix so I guess you're screwed if you're a KH fan :'D
I've just finished played the Rapunzel world and so war I have been enjoying every moment as a first time player.
