About This Game

(Release: 2014)

In resident evil 4, special agent Leon S. Kennedy is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. President’s daughter who has been kidnapped. Finding his way to a rural village in Europe, he faces new threats that are a departure from the traditional lumbering zombie enemies of the earlier instalments in the series. Leon battles horrific new creatures infested by a new threat called Las Plagas and faces off against an aggressive group of enemies including mind-controlled villagers that are tied to Los Illuminados, the mysterious cult which is behind the abduction.

I am surprised, this is the best Resident Evil game I have played, even counting the remakes. I played RE2 and 3 remakes and tried to play but ended up watching 0 and 1. I can even go up to say that this game is one of the best survival horror games I have ever played. I'll start with the negatives since there is not much. Only negative is that this game is pretty old, also it's controls are pretty outdated too with little to no safe mod support. So you gotta just deal with the weird camera and movement style. Now for the good part, it has smart enemy placement, fun puzzles and map design, great weapons and variety, loot and enemy ratio is pretty balanced and complete theme for the survival horror genre. Even being more linear than previous titles, it never felt that monotonous. Sometimes you go through calm places sometimes full of enemies, sometimes you worry about ammo sometimes you just go all out. Once you get used to movement it is a fun ride. You start of thinking how to s...

This game was, is and always will be a really big fucking deal. Excellent pacing, constant heart-pounding thrills and scares, and resource management that is a nice middle-ground between hardcore survival horror of earlier REs and Dino Crisis 2's complete all-out action. It's one of the best games of all time, don't miss it.

Amazing game, bosses suck imo and the Island (Last 1/3d section of the game) is total shit imo. Beat this one twice, once on Normal and then once on Professional. I think the remake overall is better, but this game has more satisfying headshots at least so there's that. I play the remake more bc the bosses in that game don't make me want to gouge my eyes out, but this game is still worth playing lmao. I'm sure anyone reading this has already seen or played this game anyway so my review here is really just for the steam algo to recommend me similar games. If you love RE4, go check out Dead Space if you haven't. Cheers

This game is a classic that never gets old, no matter how many new game plus sessions you play. The HD textures I notice really make for such an experience that, I feel is what I saw when I was a kid playing this game for the first time. A controller, whichever is your preference is, is really recommended in my opinion. Playing this game with M&K is kind of a chore with the camera angle. The mouse only moves the camera angle itself, but not Leon's POV, making it a headache when needing to shift focus to other directions for immediate response to potential unseen threats. It's definitively good for aiming/shooting, as it's very responsive, but for camera control, it's a bit of a headache.

This game is incredible, and always a cheaper buy than the remake, and also different enough to justify playing it. The one thing it definitively has on the better remake is Leon sass. if you haven't played RE4make, you need to play this, and if you have, come back to this once you've finished playing the series.

For being a game made 20 years ago it still holds up today. There is a lot to do in this game even after beating the main story.

Another instance of wanting a "mixed" review option on steam. This game isn't bad, I had fun with it, but its so clearly very bare bones and rushed, it's kinda amazing that it's not more of a mess. This game is *barely* a RE game however, with close to zero backtracking, thing that only count as "puzzles" on technicality, and basically zero resource scarcity. Some of the bosses where decent, but the as you get near the end, some of them take like, 4 magnum rounds to go down. This game is also the point in the franchise where the camp has escalated from "Somewhat odd dialogue (more an issue of translation then anything else)" and "Boy this place would be a pain in the ass to get around if you worked here!" to "characters forgetting they own guns during cutscenes" and "Oh yeah here is the giant ROBOT (made of wood, gears and marble, gotta stay on theme guys) that chases you for 5 seconds and then dies. This HAS made me excited to play the recent remake of this game, as seeing this game f...
