Kept any mention of AI involvement quiet until the last few days so that people against generative AI couldn't refund the game upon finding out. Incredibly scummy business practice. The game is alright but it's glitchier than 1+2, Spine Transfers will sometimes flip you the complete wrong way. Carnival and Chicago are missing, most of THPS4's soundtrack is missing, 4 is completely restructured and anything that was deemed potentially problematic has been removed. Overall it's FINE, if I could rank it a middle thumb I would. It just feels like while 1+2 had issues but was made with love, 3+4 feels a lot more like a cynical cash grab.

It’s important to understand that Vicarious Visions, the developers of the fantastic THPS 1+2 remake, are not the developers of this game. The new devs, Iron Galaxy, certainly with pressure from Activision, made a ton of bad decisions and lazy shortcuts that totally dropped the ball with this game. Everything good about this game was inherited from THPS 1+2 remake. Its buttery smooth skating gameplay, its modern and stylistically true to the originals graphics, most of its cool assets, its create a skater, park creator, and multiplayer, all were handed to Iron Galaxy from Vicarious Visions. The most glaring and egregious issue is that THPS 4 has been absolutely neutered. Its not even fair to call it THPS 4. Some of the coolest levels have been transformed into lame competition levels. The 2 minute timer doesn’t work with the bigger maps of THPS 4, which was designed for a more open world experience. “impress the skaters” goal is used over and over again, straight up lazy. ...
Never a good sign when the game is on sale only a month after it came out. Basically just an overpriced map pack for THPS1+2 since they didn't bother implementing the career mode. Worth noting that you can't import your skater from the previous game and now you need an activision account to play multiplayer. Only buy this if you're a massive pro skater fan and still want more content after finishing the first two remasters.
Skateboarding is all about artistic freedom and expression. Deck designs, griptape designs, graffiti, tricks, etc. The fact that this game has AI generated slop all over it just spits in the face of skateboarding and the art of videogames altogether. If you hate AI "art", then DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. DON'T BE LIKE ME. I feel terrible for buying this game... twice. I got the Switch collectors edition only to realize that version is practically unplayable. Second time i bought it was here. The game structure is also extremely flawed. The option to extend the timer is merely a crutch for being unable to fit the new thps4 goals in the "epic 2 minite timer" format. The game plays fine, but thats work was already done by VV. I feel bad for sinking 50 hours into this game. This is my most played game in my steam library. I have many other better games that havent been touched since 2019. But no, I gave all my attention to this. I feel bad for feeding the idea that people want nothing new a...
Absolutely gutted THPS4. If you enjoyed the maps/missions of the original, get ready to experience that for only 2 minutes at a time. This is essentially DLC for their PS 1+2 remake. Absolutely not worth it.
They removed the guy peeing off the trailer on CANADA and the bikini girls on CRUISE SHIP.
Didn't know 4 was not free roam. Heart sank when finally got to zoo level and was now a competition level...
The originals are better. This remake has too much cut content, too much censorship, too much woke stuff. All you had to do was take THPS 3 and 4, update the visuals and add small QOL stuff people wanted. You removed a bunch of content and added things people don't care about. It feels corporatized. You took the soul out of the game. I wish Neversoft was still around. Feels bad that I can't recommend this remake of a game that used to be such a huge part of my childhood.
They got rid of alot of the stuff that made it nostalgic and got rid of a bunch of songs. Theres timers on tony hawk 4 which is weird cause it was a free roam
AI generated board art, and the whole pinball stage looks like AI slop. If nothing else, this game serves as a strong argument for emulation as preservation.
