About the Game

A digging adventure in a Steam-powered Frontier…

SteamWorld Dig is an action-adventure game that mixes exploration, puzzle-solving, and mining mechanics.

Set in a western steampunk-inspired world, you control a robot named Rusty, who embarks on a journey to uncover the secrets of a long-abandoned underground town. As you dig through the earth, you’ll gather resources like ores and gems, which can be used to upgrade your abilities and tools to help you go faster and deeper...

But don’t think it’ll be that easy! As you descend into the depths, you’ll encounter a variety of enemies, environmental hazards and puzzles that will put you and your trusty pick-axe to the test.

fun game, fairly hard. not to punishing, and the backtracking is a lot of fun. great leadup to #2, and it only took me about 6 hours to 100% it. I got it and #2 for $2, so definetely worth :D

Bought it for 1 euro on sale. Addictive game loop, short enough to be excellent all along.

Starting off my SteamWorld adventures with the first in the "series" (if you can call it that), with Dig. A short and sweet Metroidvania + Platforming digging game where you play as Rusty in a really well-drawn universe of robotic desert dwellers. It has a pretty repetitive yet engaging gameplay loop where you dig, go back to the surface, sell your ores, buy upgrades, and then head back for more. It's a nice, casual experience overall. My main gripe is that it's way too easy. I beat the game with no deaths on my first attempt, and almost got the speedrunning achievement on accident off by about 20 minutes. The final boss is a cakewalk as well. Could use more challenging moments to make it more memorable. But overall, I would recommend this game. It's cute, it's fun, and it knows what it is. 3/5

Metroidvania-lite, as in a Metroidvania you can finish in (looks at playtime) 6 hours. I'd even say this is probably a great introduction to Metroidvanias. I found the lighter fluid resource management to be a great but simple mechanic to get you back up to the town Hub. The light combat, along with the digging and the exploration, as well as the highly charming tongue in cheek steampunk aesthetic make this game a winner.

Short addicting game.

The original Steam World Dig is tighter than the sequel with more grounded gameplay, and highly enjoyable. The sequel is great too, but the original has more restrictive, and in my opinion better gameplay. The first cave area music is okay, and it gets a lot better from there. Hang in there for cave areas two and three. Highly recommended.

Not the most complex game, but a fun time still. Would recommend for someone who wants to have a good time and enjoys mining. Rock and Stone!
