About This Game

A troubled loner with a hunger for cinematic gore finds himself on the other side of the camera when rumors of authentic snuff videotapes lead him to an abandoned cabin near Butcher's Creek, Pennsylvania. What starts as illicit urban exploration becomes a fight for survival when he's captured by a gang of sadistic killers. Now his only option is to pick up a box cutter, a hammer, a pickaxe, or whatever else is at hand, and unleash a little video violence of his own.

FEATURES

 • Use hammers, axes, pipes, 2x4s, box cutters, and more to brutalize anything that stands between you and freedom

 • When all else fails, the level itself can be a weapon. Kick props into enemies, or enemies into environment hazards.

 • Photograph gruesome murder scenes to fulfill your dark desires and regain lost health

 • Explore decaying farmhouses, collapsing factories, and seedy strip clubs in a forgotten corner of the Appalachian Forest

 • Experience a unique aesthetic combining the gritty shot-on-video look of found footage with the photosourced visual style of Source Engine games

 • An exercise in genuine audio/visual atmospheric discomfort

 • Learn more about the bizarre nightmare world introduced in Squirrel Stapler and The Pony Factory

Short scuzzy fun, similar to Condemned Criminal Origins.

A gruesome and sometimes goofy (complimentary) "Condemned"-em-up with a heaping dash of cosmic horror spread across the story told through notes littering the makeshift abattoirs you wander through, sowing teeth and collecting snuff. The major highlights are definitely the atmosphere (both in terms of environmental design and the general sense of dread pervading the proceedings). The music, sound design, and voice acting are top notch, and being called a penis after giving a guy a concussion is always fun. The gameplay is solid, although the
Predator-style camouflaged enemies towards the end
were a little cheap and not in keeping with the general strike/block/strike gameplay loop the game was built around, and the AI can be a bit rudimentary at times, getting stuck on the environment and briefly braking the ultraviolent spell the game casts. All in all, I had a blast and it's totally worth the price of admission.

Szymanski, You've done it again. short and sweet but oh so savored. with a soundtrack like a well oiled meat grinder, this game was intense, and flipped the script a few times. loved it, please oh please keep doing what you do.
Just another Szymanski!
Everything fits perfectly together here. The setting, the atmosphere, the horror-aspects; even the clunky fighting-system. Butchers Creek is pretty simple. You don't get lost in the maps and the puzzles don't feel unfair. It is a great little game, easy to finish in one setting, and it was not necessary to make the game longer at all. I absolutely love it just the way it is.
