Very complicated and intricate wizard war wargame. Made by 2 I think swedish sicko's who're making a sicko game for only themselves, and whoever buys and plays their game is incidental kinda thing (though there are many mods to change things up to preference). Very much a PvP multiplayer game. There is vs AI to learn / test things, but the AI is pretty dull and takes a "Random bullshit, go!" approach and won't really give you the full "experience" of tackling a thinking foe who can really engage with the intricacies. It is very much a wargame; infrastructure creation is limited, if still important, and ingame diplomacy is limited to non-aggression pacts, sending resources / items and sending messages to each other. Diplomacy with other players you basically have to discuss in [messaging platform of choice]. The only victories are through claiming enough Thrones of Ascension or obliterating all other factions. Gameplay-wise, it has a 444 page PDF manual that's filled with a lot of im...

About This Game
Dominions 6 is a turn based 4x strategy game suitable for both play vs AI, player vs player. Team play vs AI or players also works great as everyone can do their turns at once. The game has a huge variety of units, spells, magic items and different nations to play.
In Dominions you take control of a powerful being that rules a nation and aspires to godhood. The type of Pretender Gods can vary from magically powerful arch mages to huge titans or large monuments. The pretender gods have different strengths dependent on what kind of god you choose and what nation you play.
When you start the game you decide what kind of god you are and how your Dominion affects your lands, followers and sacred soldiers. It is an expression of your divine might and the faith of your followers. If your dominion dies, so do you. Your dominion also inspires your sacred warriors and gives them powers derived from your dominion.
In order to win and become the one true god you have to defeat your enemies one of three different ways: conquer their lands, extinguish their dominion or claim the Thrones of Ascension.
Dominions is set in a fantasy world that draws inspiration from historical nations, cultures and myths. You will not encounter the elves of conventional fantasy in this game. Instead you might lead a nation of vanir from old norse myth. Aztecs, romans, israelites, greeks, kievian rus and lovecraftian horrors are just a few of the inspirational sources of the game.
The first Dominions game was released in 2002 and was well received by strategy gamers. Since then Dominions has been much refined and Dominions series is still actively played making it one of the longest running 4x turn based strategy games.
----------
Dominions 6 is scaled up compared to Dominions 5 and armies are larger. We wanted to tweak the balance between conventional armies and magic. To accomplish this a couple of changes are introduced. Incomes and resources are increased, while mages are more expensive. Battlefield-wide spells are more difficult to cast and there are instead more mid-tier spells. There are some other changes with the same aim.
The second and probably most influential change is the addition of a new magic path. No longer are illusions the domain of Air magic. Instead illusions, phantasms, dreams and the stuff of forgotten legends are manipulated with the path of Glamour. This has resulted in many new spells, items and sites being added to the game.
A third massive change is the separation of mounts and riders. Riders and mounts now have separate stats and can be targeted individually. This change probably has less impact on gameplay than the previous one, but will still have an impact on cavalry and nations using mounted units.
Dominions 6 features a number of new nations as well. The addition of the Glamour path has also affected several of the old nations.
There are also a number of changes intended to ease gameplay.

After rolling through a game and a half, I don't really get why this is such a beloved classic. tl;dr: What you really need to understand here is that when they say "thousands of spells and unique units," they mean across the entire game. At any given moment, you're gonna have access to like four of them. The number's so high because there are just that many bespoke factions with their entirely personal set of slightly different tools. Variety is extremely high. Tactical options and player expression, however, felt very narrow. It may be possible I just picked boring factions (Uruk, then C'tis), but for what each faction gains in uniqueness, it also seems to lose in depth. Uruk's a great example. You have access to five different melee units, but really, they're all the same unit, just on a sliding gradient of affordability vs. quality. In reality, I really only had four tactical options. Big archer guy, big melee guy, hoplites whose gimmick was they could stand in tight formation, an...
Having a none aggression pact is nice but.... I feel absolutely ripped off! $45 for this. Nothing has changed since dominions 3, nothing substantial anyway. This franchise packages updates as new games! Dominions 6 doesn't introduce enough substantial changes to warrant a full new purchase, especially for players who already own. Dont get me wrong if you like the series its fun. However we deserve and need new systems in the game. I can barley tell whats changed between 4 and 6 the same sprites are even used!!! How about a real diplomacy system so I can form a new pantheon, like monotheism is not the only answer!!! How about a light building system, but i understand if thats not the direction you want to go. How about province policy system that lets me assign an edict that will make more gold, growth, recruitment, resource, or enhance spells cast there but only one on per province. If you dont want to add a building system add special buildings that can show up as a deposits on a...
Ctrl L is your friend! If only this information was blazoned somewhere prominently for folk to see. Read on to discover why this is so. I'm not amending my rating, as I still think this is VERY POOR performance. This game was not ready for release. I play solo and want to be able to create and save pretenders. Creation of them in the tools screens is possible, but utterly pointless, as after saving them I can find no way to use them in a game, at all. There is nothing about how to achieve this miracle in the handbook either. If I'd released such a shoddy product before it was ready, my boss would have had my hands cut off. Make sure the basics work before adding "features". I love this series of games and have spent hundreds of hours playing them. Tremendously unimpressed. I'll be asking steam for my money back. IF you ever get the basics working, please let me know, as I think it's an excellent version, but no point in buying a pretty car with go faster stripes but no eng...
extremely deep, maybe I'll get used to it some day.
Are you *really* into folklore? Are you Nordic, like in real life? And are you salty that Nordic Elves have been phased out of existence entirely? You might like this game, It’s “what if ever mythology fought” with the complete absurdity that may bring, with some extra original flavor as well. The game plays great, actually! It can be a *bit* finicky to get into if your used to modern UI and on boarding but its very fluid and easy to use once you get into it. One ~30 min small guide on the basic controls and concepts and I was in and able to enjoy myself a lot. Its more of a war game than a management sim, everyone starts able to attack each other and your main focus is managing your armies and your economy. There’s some overworld game play to boost your money and magic economy, defenses and recruitment with its own depth of course. But the magic (Sometimes literally) is in the warfare. I come from Total War, and despite it being the main appeal I find watching battles more ...
next game in a long line of great time wasters
idk what im doing but i can do anything and thats pretty cool
When you first start playing this game, the unbelievable amount of content within will be overwhelming. You will be paralysed and unable to do anything. The later game has an unfun level of micromanaging as you are forced to manually sift through each potential spell, research tree, unit type, craftable item and army for every damn commander. So you watch some tutorials, play around a little, follow a guide. Then it starts clicking. You begin to know what summons work, and what don't. You can eye up army strengths relative to one another. You know which magic schools to research, what items to forge, and how to design a functional god for the particular strengths and weaknesses of your chosen nation. Then the game becomes more fun, and does not stop becoming more fun. The unreal amount of content becomes its biggest strength, for you can continually refine your strategy, and do increasingly fun things with increasingly less mental effort. If you have autism, and/or like dwarf fortr...
