About This Game

A new tale of the Kami awaits...

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a unique Japanese-inspired, single player Kagura Action Strategy game.

The game takes place on a mountain covered by defilement.
During the day, purify the villages and prepare yourself for sundown.
During the night, protect the Maiden against the hordes of the Seethe.

Repeat the day and night cycle until you cleanse the mountain of defilement and return peace to the land.

Unique Japanese-inspired World
The setting is Mt. Kafuku—a mountain covered in defilement. The game offers a taste of Japanese culture, including Kagura dance, masks, as well as the music that plays in the background.

The Seethe
The Seethe emerge from the Torii Gates to the other world when the sun sets. This enemy, which has a variety of different abilities, attacks at night under the cover of darkness, targeting the Maiden. The director's ideas and attention to detail have been packed into the design that presents the setting of this game.

Exhilarating Sword Dance Action
The main character, Soh, wields a sword to protect the Maiden of the mountain, Yoshiro, as she confronts the Seethe. Do not be intimidated by the enemy's array of attacks, and slay them with dance-like sword attacks!

A Fusion of Action and Strategy.
Soh's battles are not fought alone, but with the help of villagers who have been bestowed roles. What placements and roles will be most effective? Where will the villagers fight? And which enemies will Soh focus on? Constant changes during battle will test your strategy and tactics.

Purify the Torii Gates of the Defilement.
If you can survive the Seethe attacks until dawn and lead Yoshiro to a Torii Gate while the sun is still up, you can purify it with her Kagura dance. Restore peace to the mountain villages!

This game reminded me of the PS2 era of games when companies would let a developer make a new IP with a that is drastically different from what they usually make. Its a simple game with a fun premise the game has good play time with lots or replay value. Its not going to be for everyone but I would be lying if I didn't say I was addicted to the gameplay. Very fun (and gorgeous to boot) would recommend to anyone looking for something different.

On first impression this appears to be a bad action game with a truly terrible ui and some underbaked tower defense mechanics. I'm not sticking around for a second impression. It feels like a training game for new developers at CAPCOM. Maybe everybody got to work on their own part. Unfortunately, when all those parts come together there is nothing interesting or compelling. They've also really leaned into the 'nobody has faces' thing that has become popular in recent years, and I gotta say, I miss faces. It was nice when video game characters had faces. As an action game, the feedback for taking damage is non-existant. There's no satisfaction in hitting things. And your generic faceless swordsman feels sluggish to control. These are pretty much the worst things you can do when starting a game. I can imagine a world where after like, 20 hours, this game becomes a good tower defense game. But I don't care enough to find out if that happens or if it just stays bad. If you're looking...

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a tower defense/hack 'n slash fusion game except your goal is to guide the Tower (Yoshiro) as Soh (the hack 'n slasher) to the end of a stage while protecting her at night along with a small army of villagers you saved. This game is fun, I appreciated what Capcom put out to the table. It's not the first time I've played something of this sort either but it's also something I've not experienced in a long time as well so the route Capcom took about creating this game was great to me. From the moment you begin moving you can tell that it's smooth & responsive which helps in getting a player used to how the game feels. In every stage before you begin you have to purify the "defilement" in order to pave way for Yoshiro to the gate and clear the stage. The thing about every stage is that you have a set number of villagers as well as a set number of defilement to clear out. Why, you may ask? This is because you get crystals from purifying defilement whic...

Both stylistically and structurally unique. The Buddhist body horror and tower defense work surprisingly well together and kept me engaged for the entire campaign, and probably through ng+ as well. The enemy and map design are varied although it feels like they didn't fully utilize their full potential. The boss design is great but the boss fights kind of clash with the tower defense aspect which can feel frustrating. Instead of just fighting them in an arena I wish they were incorporated into the td maps themselves. The classes of villagers could also use some balancing and further specialization in order to make your choices feel more impactful. Overall, this is a unique game that is rare outside the indie space, if any aspect of it sounds interesting I would 100% recommend it despite the kind of steep price.
