About This Game

Welcome to Sunbeam, a Game of Light and Dark.

In this game, you will navigate the complexities of an unknown place, meeting familiar faces and hearing familiar voices. After being plunged into an unknown place, you can explore the landscape in search of answers and (hopefully) figure out what's going on.

featuring...

  • Top-down RPG gameplay!
  • Collectible flowers!
  • Touch-friendly controls!
  • Depression!
  • Puzzle mechanics!
  • (And a fair few secrets to find..!)

Progression

Sunbeam is a mostly linear game, with added events and secrets accessible to the more curious player. The story is broken down into five primary chapters, but the length and content within each may vary depending on your choices and actions. Each run through will be a little different from the last, and it's all up to you (as the player) to work it out!

The game also lends itself well to speedrunning, so there's always an incentive to go that little bit faster!

Don't be scared. It's okay.
After all, why not be the splash of colour in a world of greyscale?

Sorry, EloThere, but I can't recommend the game. I also don't want to discourage you from trying your hand at game development in the future, because there are signs, seeds of a good game in Sunbeam. That being said, I found that the inconsistency of the assets, like what is traversable, what is not, what's interact-able and what's not, with no clear visual indication, to be jarring. For example there are points where no asset/graphical indicator is present, just dark, but you still can't pass through. Basically an invisible wall. The same with things that seem solid but are not. I get it, and agree that the one in the maze was cute, but there are too many things that are ambiguous whether they are traversable or not. Also, most of the time while I was moving flickering lines appeared next to the assets. They were annoying. Not a game breaking bug, just an annoying visual one. It took me way too long to figure out what the select/interact button is. I even tried 2 different keyboar...

Nice little game that is kind of like a Gameboy Color game, an RPGMaker game and a Bitsy game had a baby. Has some graphical glitches on my computer and I noticed a few other bugs (also, I think some of the achievements might have not shown up as they should have), but I still managed to finish the game. I played through half of the game with no sound because I didn't realize there was a toggle option to turn it on/off. Also, the chest in the ping-pong room crashed the game and I had to restart from my last save after restarting.
