About This Game

Fantasy Kommander invites you to embark on a strategic journey through a medieval-inspired isometric realm of fantasy, with 90s style pre-rendered graphics for an immersive retro experience. Set on a hex map filled with diverse terrains, this operational-level strategy game presents a real high quality window into games of the past, with challenging battles, engaging character voice overs, and a competent AI opponent.

Battles take place on a hexagonal map and are regulated by our complex proprietary tactical simulation system "Archangelus" which for each clash considers multiple factors such as terrain, ZOCs (zones of control), morale, orientation, the combat fronts, the offensive and defensive power and the specific typology of each unit.

At the beginning of each battle you can deploy units that each represent hundreds of soldiers, but there are also unique units such as heroes and dragons. Each unit is similar in structure to a classic role-playing game character, with distinct characteristics and special abilities that can be improved by levelling them up thanks to the accumulation of experience points on the battlefield.

The plot unfolds within four compelling campaigns narratively linked to each other. In the role of a valiant general who finds himself in the midst of a devastating war that has broken out for unknown reasons, you will receive messages from Emperor Karl and the Grand Council of Mages that will guide you to discover a mysterious enemy plotting in the shadows.

Alongside you stand three mighty Heroes representing Humans, Elves, and Dwarves, ready to assist in your trials, challenges, and triumphs. Explore the great Empire of Adamantia, invaded by the forces of Kaos, and venture into mysterious uncharted lands as you seek victory and freedom.

Each campaign consists of multiple battles with primary and secondary objectives of escalating difficulty. As you progress, you'll unlock victory levels determined by completing objectives within time limits, with "Epic" Victories making you richer and more famed. Achieving higher levels rewards you with gold, fame points, and various benefits such as unit upgrades, resurrection of fallen troops, new powers, and expanded recruitment options. Visit the encampment after battles to level up your army.

Lead your troops strategically by deploying them before each battle, considering facing and movement options. Engage in melee and ranged combat, utilizing spells and missile weapons to gain an edge. With 32 special abilities, 32 spells, and six different races, the tactical possibilities are vast.

Remember that you can only move one unit at a time, and combat follows a strictly symmetrical turn-based approach. Adapt to these constraints and overcome the scripted challenges that lie ahead.

Features:
  • Complex Battle System incorporating various tactical factors
  • Immersive storyline inspired by European medieval traditions and fantasy narratives
  • Four single-player campaigns with 25 epic battles, heroes, enemy generals, and side quests
  • Over 70 unique units to recruit, upgrade, and unleash upon the battlefield
  • RPG-like units with customizable stats and abilities
  • Powerful spells to wield and hordes of enemies to face

For $5 on sale, this is a no brainer for lovers of tactical combat like the original Fantasy General I. Have a catapult or two for the last battle of the first campaign or you can't take the cities against the regenerating Trolls.

An excellent turn-based strategy game. There are many rules and they cover every tactical aspect. The positioning of the armies and the types of terrain are very important and affect each type of unit in different ways. They are classic rules in highly simulation strategy games, but rare in fantasy games. Really a nice battle simulation with a good story and an interesting setting.

I felt like I was playing a D&D miniatures battle in the 90s. Awesome.

This game achieves what it wants. As a tactical turn based combat focused game in a fantasy world it has very little against it. I would recommend this game to anyone in the market for that type of fun. I got it on sale and I'm happy I did, but if you are the type to really dig into tactical battles, then by all means get this game at full price. I have only played into the first non-tutorial campaign so its possible there is more depth as I progress. Assuming there is not though let me make a couple suggestions. There are openings for more content to be added pretty seamlessly. First off and easiest of all I think there should be more lore. Not in your face story content just a way to examine the world or worlds we are fighting in if the player so chooses. Maybe lost scrolls or proclamations. Next is the options you have when not fighting. You can recruit, level up your units, and resurrect dead units from the cemetery. Pretty basic stuff but again in works well for what the g...

I've just started playing this after seeing Raptor stream it, it was instant love. The game is super basic looking, and not going to lie, has very dry graphics, but you can see that in the screenshots anyway. The game's strengths are definitely the battle system, voice overs, and strategic turn based combat.

No auto save (so I lost a bunch of progress because I didn't know it wasn't saving). Hard to tell whats going on, because for some reason everything is shrunk super tiny, and is only taking place in a small box on your screen. Who knows why, no option to change that. Side objectives tell you to take control of certain towns before the main ones -- but as far as I can tell, hovering over the town just says "town" and not the name. So it feels like you're guessing it's the right one. Feels like lots of information that would be helpful in a battle is missing. A ton of RNG during the battle, so you can get screwed real easy. Enemies have unlimited spawn, and you don't have reinforcements (at least as far as i got you didn't) once a battle starts, you cant press esc to exit out of the battle -- it forces you to place all your men before being able to exit the battle. Couldn't tell what the range of an enemy's attack was, so I would move people in bad spots. No undo button, so I get screwe...
