Blackguards, a new turn-based strategy RPG, explores this very question. You will discover over 180 unique hex-based battlegrounds within a dark and mature story of crime, drugs, and murder.

Play as a warrior, mage or hunter and customize your character's skills as you see fit. The challenging campaign delivers a story of doubt, treason and loss. You decide the course of the story at key turning points and determine its outcome.

Its good, I get really into it but then I need a break. It gets frustrating. Apparently I'm not great at these games cause even on easy I struggle. But I keep coming back so I guess its a thumbs up since I have a short attention span with most games and get bored and wander off. This one I play for hours at a time.

Really rough around the edges, sometimes - unforgivingly brutal old-school tactical RPG. Pretty interesting story and lots of builds to experiment with. Hard to recommend to modern gamers, though :)

I came for the dark fantasy, but I stayed for the brutal decisions and the way every battle made me think. It’s messy, flawed, and occasionally unforgiving — just like the band of misfits you lead. But that’s what makes it so gripping. Every small victory feels massive, and every mistake lingers. If you’re the kind of person who roots for the broken, the damned, and the morally grey, this one hits differently.

I took my time with the game, playing at a leisurely pace. I was quite surprised that some fights were unforgiving for bad moves. On normal difficulty, it was quite challenging, and some levels were ridiculously difficult. I'm sure I didn't play for 120 hours straight. I was doing other things while the game was open, like listening to music and eating. But I definitely played it for a long time. I finished almost all the side quests, too. It's kind of like Heroes of Might and Magic 3, but a bit different. On normal difficulty, it's as hard as the King difficulty in Heroes. All in all, it's a great game, but you really need to immerse yourself in it and think. If you don't progress or get certain potions in time, your progress will be very slow. My strategy was totally wrong until the middle of the game. You need to focus on certain skills, and I think I was spreading myself too thin. Sometimes it was tough to find the right solution. I had to repeat some battles around 10 times; some ...

The game has its flaws but if you are willing to overlook its rough edges it can offer a great adventuring experience in a world of magic and swords. That’s what I am here for and it certainly delivered. The good: The game was a labor of love and it shows in its little details and refreshing utilization of pioneering mechanics I haven’t seen elsewhere. Short kings: One of your party members from the tutorial is a dwarf and the game takes into account his short stature in quite a sensible way, as other characters with ranged weapons can attack over his head or aim spells over him due to partial visibility, whereas if a human sized party member was to stand in front of them let’s say in a narrow cave path, the other members would be incapable of attacking as the person ahead is blocking their view of enemies. Great arenas: The battlefields your party finds themselves at are greatly varied, not just in theme like ruins, deserts, tombs, caves, gladiatorial arenas and so on, but a...
