About the Game

Skylancer: Our planets have been overtaken by the Regime. Join us and together we will shatter the yoke of their oppression.

COOPERATIVE PVE EXTRACTION

Take flight with up to 3 other players for 4 player team-oriented gameplay, focused around guerilla warfare against the Regime.

It's your team vs the environment. Get in, wage a guerrilla war of resistance, and destroy as much enemy infrastructure as you can on the way out!

A PLAYGROUND OF DESTRUCTION

Battle through completely destructible cityscapes. Smash, destroy, and otherwise tear down the Regime's infrastructure of oppression over the course of every match. Each session is unique, with a reactive and ever-evolving combat environment.

Carve doorways out of walls, tunnel through terrain, and unleash an arsenal of destruction!

TURN THE TOOLS OF YOUR ENEMY AGAINST THEM

Assume the mantle of Skylancer and reclaim the birthright of your ancestors. Fly, extract, and resist the Regime's war of conquest!

COMMUNITY-FOCUSED DEVELOPMENT

We're a small and scrappy team of 11 people, aided by the tools and technologies of Unreal Engine 5.

We're excited about the game we've built with Polaris, and wholeheartedly invite our community to share feedback.

FAQ

Will Polaris be a live service title?

No, Polaris will offer a complete experience at launch. That said, if big AAA studios don't get everything right day one, our little team certainly won't, so we'll no doubt be making bug fixes and balancing changes after release, and we'll take that responsibility seriously. If people dig what we've made and would like more, we'll definitely consider it, so long as we won't bankrupt ourselves in the process. But I don't want to sell people something which is incomplete, half-finished, or where we're pitching as-yet-unrealised potential. We just want to make a cool game, and we hope it looks cool to you, too!

What operating systems will Polaris be compatible with?

At launch we'll support Windows PC only, with the possibility of Steam Deck support at a later point.

Will this be an Early Access title?

No, Polaris will launch in full when released.

What's the inspiration behind making Polaris?

It's Jonathan the creative director writing this (hi there!). I can't speak for everyone on the team, so I'll answer just for me... I've kind of always wanted to work on a game like this. I grew up loving the games of Bullfrog and Psygnosis, in particular Syndicate, Wipeout, G-Police, and Colony Wars. So experiences involving "teams of high tech soldiers, using high tech vehicles, causing chaos in an original science fiction world" have always been embedded deep in my frontal lobe. Over the years I've fallen in love with games like Halo, Earth Defence Force, Red Faction, Just Cause, Crimson Skies, and Ace Combat. Polaris is a melting pot of all these inspirations (and more!) combined with the raw talent and creativity of the awesome team I get to work with everyday. Also they turned off the Warhawk servers so this is the only way I get to fulfil that particular gameplay fantasy.

Maybe this game is better in co-op? I appreciate the devs have warned it's not ideal as a solo experience, but I needed to play solo in order to convince friends it was worth joining me. As it is in solo on the gunship mode you destroy a generator, whilst being chased by 2 drones at a time. You then spend most of the time getting back to the ship, you shoot it a bit then you have to do the exact same thing. Maybe it's a wildly different experience with 3 other friends, but I found I could barely get back to the ship a lot of the time before the shield went back up. I knokced off maybe 60% of the mothership's health in the full 20 minutes? I somehow don't see myself getting up to completing that first mission without some serious buffs & if you fail, you get zero rewards. Maybe 50% of what you collected for rewards would have been fair so you can at least try & grind up. I'm sure there would be something to like here if I could convince even one friend to play, but based on my immediate...

The game is pretty fun for what it's worth along with an interesting art style by it's side. Still have yet to get deeper into the harder difficulties but can confidently say it's well worth it if you're looking to kill some time and blow stuff up. Dev is very friendly and active on the Discord as well on the game's forums. Hope to see more content added in the future including bosses, game modes and maps.

Runs really well for me, very hectic and fun. With more content like maps and objectives 10/10 overall so far a solid 8-9/10. I know this is an air combat game but I would still love some ground enemies at some point.

No input, no direction. Walk around slowly while shooting endless VTOLs with a pistol. Upgrade to hover boots that go slower than walking speed.

Holy god how do you play this lmao I thought the tutorial button was busted - it played audio but didn't show anything or take me anywhere - i pressed it a few times and the audio layered over itself lmao Then I figured out it just opened my web browser and played a youtube video lmaooo WITH ADs ON IT If you try to play, it just thrusts you into an environment with objects floating off the ground and an absolute information overload of a screen after falling 1000m to the ground with no direction, story, hints of how to play or what you're supposed to be doing and how to do it Then I accidentally'd into flying - Found some rings - And it clicked. This is Superman 64 remastered.

Tip for newbies: don't start off solo unless you know that "B" lets you spawn items similar to Helldivers 2! You can even terraform with some weapon types! Once you get vehicles or gravboots to zoom around like a superhero, this is a blast! The art design is immaculate, the music and cinematics particularly the drop sequence are amazing, and the creative director is a sassy, quirky, and highly-communicative feller on Discord and forums. Would love features like a server browser with custom settings (like peaceful/exploration matches, ability to set up races etc), destruction physics of falling debris, harpoons or grapples to dangle from ships, melee weapons to bonk walls (or team-mates) with, and maybe a bit more progression to unlock (some items locked to X difficulty, ability to spawn with Y items as a loadout etc) and seeing difficulty affect more things like enemy spawn rates or even land enemies like tanks or speeders.
