About This Game

Mouthwashing is a first-person horror game following the dying crew of a shipwrecked space freighter.

Who could have known what good ol’ Captain Curly was capable of? Guess he thought his crew dying alongside him was only right. But some men can’t even kill themselves properly. Maimed, limbless and unable to speak, but alive, Curly is now at the mercy of the crew he has doomed to a slow death.

Descend into Madness

Follow the lives of the crew as they weather starvation, isolation, and each other. People were never your strong suit anyway.

Zero Chance of Rescue

The ship will run out of power within six months. Food rations long before that.

Immersive Storytelling

Pay attention to your surroundings.

Psychological Scares

Your eyes are lying.

Unforgiving Narrative

Hope to die, or for goodness sake, pray that everyone else did.

The game is absolutely brilliant. It’s just a shame it’s rather short.. Curly really gives me the vibe of Eva from Evangelion. Definitely worth a look.

I get the themes and everyhting, but still the message clearly didnt make that great of an impact, games ive played w strong messages like this have stcuk w me forever, this game, naw.

I would give this game a "Mixed" rating if I could. - The story is excellent, very compelling - The gameplay essentially boils down to holding "W" and the occasional fetch quest. Not much subtance here - A little bit on the pricey side ($13) for something that has a little over 1.5 hours of content.

I really wanted to love this game, but it is not for me. I almost never play horror game, and I like the psychological horror ones just like this one. However, I feel like the game is barely a game, there is barely meet on its bones for me. As much as I wanted to love it, I do not recommend it. If there is a neutral vote, I may vote neutral. But as it stands, I do not recommend the game, especially if you are not into horror games and think this might introduce you to something unique or special.

Yeah its good. Short, has a nice pacing for the most part, captures uneasy psychological horror without being too in the face about it. Kinda strange it became as popular on social media back then considering its various subject matter. Compliments - Despite the short playtime, it does get the personality and what's their deal across for most of the characters really well. - The audio/visuals are nice. Low-poly, but distinctive. It has a cohesive style and a bit more color than I expect out of a horror game. They seem very intentional with how they composite a scene. On the audio side, you'll often just be doing a task or chatting with a character as the sounds of a metal footsteps or tapping of text plays while a quiet ambiance drones in the background. - Space Station manages to feel very distinct in the past and present. Color in particular as well as the obvious environment changes. Wandering both of them is nice. Complaints - I know walking sims has a negative connotation, but ...

This game is so good it has genuinely changed me. For a horror game there's nothing really scary about it, it's the realization that's the scary part. It starts with you crashing the ship, then it moves timelines in the story which all lead up to the slow and subtle realization just before the the big drop, no matter how slow or how fast you can catch onto hints in dialogue or action, you will always realize you need to take responsibility.

Thirteen bucks. two or three hours of your time... It's worth every penny, every second. Minimal investment for major payoff. I highly recommend this game if you can appreciate a well told story and surrealist horror. It's got some really adult themes, but they're handled with maturity and discretion, I do wish it had a bit more to it, and I feel like the lack of voice-acting was a bit of a missed opportunity. While I don't mind the retro. N64-esque graphics, I feel like it might be a deal-breaker for some people. It's definitely worth looking past those things to experience this. It's a product whose sum is greater than the whole of its parts... Allow me to rephrase that; it's a piece of art whose sum is greater than the whole of its parts. One disclaimer- I went in to this having a lot of the plot spoiled, and while I enjoyed it a great deal anyway, the less you know before you dive in, the better... What are you waiting for?

this game shouldve been an animated short film. the gameplay is consistently the weakest part of the experience and even diminishes the impact of some scenes. narratively its solid and i found the way it handled its themes mostly interesting. the characters aren't particularly interesting or engaging but serve the narrative well. the visual presentation is quite striking at times. the sound design is excellent and really elevates some of the body horror sequences in horrible ways. but it's still a $13 video game with a 2 hour runtime that is essentially an hour long narrative padded with an hour of unfun gameplay. as a film, this would be an easy 7-8/10 as a game, its a 5/10 at best.
