So I love this game, its easily my favourite Raven Software game, and just now I've posted a comprehensive steam guide to all the weapons, levels, enemies and locations in this game so would I recommend it? HELL YEAH! I initially posted a negative review but a dev cleared up one of my major problems about the multiplayer being removed, and the fact it is reversible by deleting the dplayx.dll file so props to the team for giving us that option. The reasoning to not have people be forced to install DirectPlay makes a lot of sense since its a really old game protocol that nobody uses anymore. I hugely appreciate that the game includes the awesome CD music now in .ogg format without the need for a CD and presumably functional looping which you can't get from a virtual CD drive. My only issue is that this version is using cnc-draw which forces the game to use the 8 bit rendering method that only goes up to 640x480. I would recommend downloading DgVoodoo2 and using that for Direct3D rende...

About This Game
You are Slade. Before the nuclear war, Special Ops commando. Now, survivor. Killing had never been your first initiative, but you were good at it... very good. And your time for killing has begun.
The road to salvation, to the Dome, is littered with the corpses of those who sought its life-giving secrets. But no one person has the technology to breach the Done. Each Zoner group has a piece of the answer. All you have to do is separate them from the information that they hold. Time to kill, or be killed.
Top Down Mayhem:
A greater field of vision allows you to implement more sophisticated attack and defense strategies. Multiplane levels surround you with enemy targets in 3D, so now you can pick off enemies both above and below you.
Non-linear territories:
There’s many different paths to victory, so rage anywhere you want within 20 freak-filled indoor and outdoor territories. Take’em on one by one or explore ahead before completing previous levels.
More enemies. Smarter Enemies:
Mutants, Mechs, Humans, Sub-Humans, Freaks, Preppies, Grunts - all with advanced AI that gives them extremely tough, individualized combat behavior.
Massive Firepower:
Disembowel with a Tachyon Cannon, light’em up with a Molotov, or cauterize with a Laser Rifle. With 21 weapons, 22 combat items, and multiple vehicles you can punish anything and everything in sight.

Wow, seriously can't believe this got rereleased! Don't let my Steam time fool you, I've spent lots of hours in this game over the years. This is a great rerelease, as it functions perfectly fine on modern systems. Only downside right now seems to be alt+tab seems to completely crash the game for some reason. Also, there's the lack of the D3D video options which is a shame, but I've never gotten that to work on newer hardware. This game and Mageslayer had some of the coolest and most vibrant dynamic colored lighting I've ever seen. But they're only fully properly shown off when displayed in D3D mode. Hopefully one day this will get updated. I hope one day there's also an update that allows multiplayer over the internet, I'd imagine it was chaotic as heck. As for the game itself, this is an INSANELY good game, like way more than its obscurity would lead you to believe. It plays almost like a Sci Fi post apocalyptic Hexen in a top down perspective. That's the best way I could describe ...
Ah, yes... The original HOTLINE MIAMI!
The same great chaotic game from back in the 90s. If you enjoy any sort of top down GTA action you'll love this. Plays well on steam deck once you set up your controller. I uploaded a preset controller layout to the community for ease of use. I'm very happy with this one so far. A pleasant surprise to see it available on steam
It's better than I thought but the only problem I have is that it's like hexen, I don't know where to go
For me, this is the best Raven Software game, at least from that decade. It's a pretty unusual game that allows you to explore vast locations quite freely, from a top-down perspective. It has a good soundtrack, (I think the best that Kevin Schilder composed), many different weapons, items, boss fights and a lot of dark humor. The advantage is that the game works directly out of the box, unlike many other old games on Steam. The disadvantage is lack of clarity of some objectives, I often had to watch playthroughs on YouTube.
After many months of asking/begging Raven to release this it was an instant purchase! I have the physical CD for this game and it was such a pain in the ass to run on a modern machine so I'm so glad this version works flawlessly without any issues. I may not yet have the hours on this game showing on steam but on the physical copy I have well over 3k hours on it. Having completed the game so many times I also enjoyed that such an old game had such AI. The AI has a faction set to it and different opposing factions will fight each other. It's also worth knowing that if you know the in-game code names for the enemies you can actually use the command console and spawn them in. Spawning in differing factions can cause chaos but it's always fun. If you get bored of the game and fancy a challenge, try changing the difficulty to legionnaire and using the "Map KAW 1-3" commands and face off against all of the games bosses in a unique usually multiplayer only map! Very fun to clear in inven...
Overhead view Duke Nukem 3D + The Warriors meets Escape From NY. This is the coolest game I've seen in my entire life.
Better than Diablo 4!
just a unique throwback shooter, can't recall ever playing anything quite like it. very fun shooting, interesting world building.
