About This Game

Surf across magnificent waves of sand and glistening waters on an epic quest to restore a lost ocean in Sword of the Sea.

From the visionary artist behind ABZÛ, The Pathless, and Journey – Sword of the Sea is an atmospheric surfing adventure with highspeed Hoversword movement inspired by skateboarding and snowboarding.

Awesome Surfing and Tricks

Carve your way forward on the ancient and powerful Hoversword, which moves like a snowboard, skateboard, and surfboard all in one. Build momentum to reach top speed and catch big air off the crests of giant waves. Pull off radical flips, spins, and grab tricks with ease as you shred halfpipes, ramps, and wall rides. It’s the perfect balance of exhilarating action and fluid, meditative movement.

A Mysterious and Visually Stunning World of Waves

Explore a world where the land flows in constant waves. From massive tides to the smallest ripples, the shifting sea of dunes is incredibly detailed and beautifully rendered. Surf across sandy deserts, glacial mountains, and many more undulating environments full of secrets in this incredible adventure.

A Spiritual Journey to Unveil the Sea

You are the Wraith – resurrected in the desolate Necropolis on a quest to unveil the ancient sea buried beneath the land. Discover the remnants of a lost culture hidden in sinking tombs and skatepark-like ruins as you search for purpose. Transform sandy dunes into glittering, emerald waters and witness magical sealife return in huge, breathtaking shoals. Feel the spiritual magic of surfing as you connect with nature and restore life – but beware, there is also darkness lurking under the waves.

A Legacy of Art, Design, and Music Continues

Developed by the renowned indie team Giant Squid, Sword of the Sea features the unique artistic design of creative director Matt Nava and beautiful music composed by Austin Wintory. Long time creative partners, their works together include beloved indie games ABZÛ, The Pathless, and the legendary, award-winning game Journey.

Performance and scaling issues. Sadly with these problems at launch, i can not fully enjoy this masterpiece. Would recommend to buy after patch, until then would rather wait✋ Music and artstyle is breathtaking, gameplay seems enjoyable and fun. Controler support (Dualsense with haptic feedback) is nice touch. I will be pleased to change review to positive after receiving patched and stable product that i paid for ;) EDIT: Decided to ask for return of my money from Steam- will buy again after performance fix update (I hope it will be soon)
The game's great!
However not that well optimized. Which makes it somewhat difficult to enjoy. I think it's especially important to guarantee a smooth experience when a lot of the game revolves around movement and eyecandy. The performance remained unstable no matter the graphic settings. I will definitely return to this game when it runs properly!

$30 for a game that took less than 3 hours to beat is insane. The design is beautiful, but there's very little to the game. I didn't rush to beat it, felt like I explored each level to my satisfaction, but still beat it in 2 hours 47 minutes. Not worth the money.

I feel like i NEED this kind of games at least once a year. The last year was Jusant. Now the Sword of the Sea. No cuscenes, no dialogs. You just glide through non-verbal storytelling like it's a beautiful dream that you don't want to wake up from and enjoy those few lovely hours.

Early thoughts: It very obviously feels like a mix of Abzu and Journey, I loved both games so this is great. I've enjoyed it so far, music is amazing, no surprise there. Only complaint I have is that the performance is not good? I realise my rig is a bit old now, but I would imagine that a 3080 would be able to at least push 60 fps everywhere. Hoping there is a patch coming, I haven't dropped down to 30 fps in any game, let alone a toon game in all the years I've used this card.

It is a wonderfully beautiful narrative driven game with very smooth movement mechanics... when the game is running smoothly As unfortunate as it is, I cannot recommend this game until a performance patch is released. I bared through the issues of choppy video playback even at the lowest graphics settings and was not able to really enjoy the game for what it is. If you're a fan of Giant Squid games like I am and want to pick up Sword of the Sea, I recommend waiting until a few updates are made to address the performance issues

What would have been a great Steam deck game instead runs like ass... real waste. Game looks great and movement is really nice, i'll come back when the performance improves I wouldn't recommend it right right now...

Beautiful game. However, really expensive for such a short game. Took me 3 hours even to beat it.

Huge fan of these games. Journey and Abzu could both run on my Steamdeck at 1080p or more docked to my TV. There's no reason this should struggle to get above 50fps on my desktop machine. Performance needs to be addressed.
