SaGa Frontier 2 remained elusive and mysterious for me for many years. While I had had contact with the Saga series growing up, I hadn't truly dived into the series until relatively recently. Now i'm a veteran of several games, and this is one that I eagerly anticipated ever since I played SaGa Frontier 1 Remastered, which is not just one of my favorites in the series, but one of my all-time favorite games. I knew it was quite different, and it is. Compared to the rest of the series, SF2 feels more linear, constrained, and less exploration-focused than the rest of SaGa. The two intertwining stories told here are very compelling ,between the political intrigue and coming-of-age tale of Gustave and the generational saga (pun intended) of the Knights family and it's run-ins with an evil artifact. Gameplay also feels different, and it brings back weapon durability, and shakes up the traditional SaGa magic elements with two weird new ones, Tone and Beast. There's also three different ...

About This Game

- Story
Our tale starts with two protagonists: Gustave, heir to an esteemed royal line, and Wil, a young man who makes his way in the world performing excavation work.
Though born in the same era, their circumstances could not be more different, and as Gustave is faced with strife and conflict between nations, Wil finds himself confronting a world-threatening calamity that lurks in the shadows.
Their stories gradually coalesce to form a single history.
------------------------------
The game's "History Choice" system gives players the freedom to choose which events to play, and in doing so has them assume the roles of various characters and experience the world's history in fragments.
In addition to the glimmer and combo mechanics that the SaGa series is known for, this title also features one-on-one duels.
Players will find themselves confronted with battles both strategic and highly compelling.
------------------------------
New Features
For this remaster, the game's impressionist watercolor graphics have been upgraded to a higher resolution, giving them a greater sense of warmth and delicacy. With a completely rebuilt UI and a number of new features, the gameplay experience is smoother than ever.
- New Events
Events that touch on stories previously untold in the original have been added, as well as a number of characters who are newly playable in battle.
Through these additions, players will be able to experience the world of Sandail like never before.
- Character Growth
A new feature called "Parameter Inheritance" lets one character inherit the stats of another, allowing for greater customization.
- Featuring Enhanced Bosses!
A number of powerful, augmented bosses have been added for those seeking a greater challenge.
- Dig! Dig! Digger
Diggers you recruit in-game can be sent on expeditions.
Should an expedition end in success, diggers will come home with items—but watch out, because they have a bad habit of slacking off when left unsupervised!
- Gameplay Improvements
With the addition of things like high-speed functionality and a New Game+ mode that allows you to carry over your completion data, changes have been made to create a more comfortable gameplay experience.

I'm going to recommend this game because I love the Saga games and this one has some neat unique things about it, which I'll cover in the review. But, spoiler,
the last dungeon is complete bs. This area has the first fights in the entire game that requires a protection against a status effect. The final boss will use a petrification spell that will wipe the party unless you've killed the Stone Lord. The Stone Lord can also cast petrify. So, if you removed or scrapped the 3 items required that offer petrify resistance, you are basically soft locked in the final dungeon. Congrats for almost winning!
Story: I really dig the whole split story thing. It's cool that they found a unique way to improve upon the Romancing Saga 2 generational jumps, while also linking up both progressions. Gustave not being able to use magic is also an antithesis to games like FF6 (where Terra is considered a monster for being able to use magic). The digger exploration thing w...
the hand drawn art and backgrounds is so gorgeous omg. this game is so unique in so many ways.
I highly recommend this even if you're not a fan of the SaGa series! + Faithful remaster with new content and quality of life features making it easier to pick up and play + Visuals and music go together really well and make it easy to get absorbed into the game world + A unique but gripping story and characters that feel very real + Satisfying combat systems that reward experimentation This SaGa game is structured mostly linearly unlike most games in the series. However note that this game can have years of gaps in the story, so it's not like a traditional RPG where you follow a story day to day. Think of it more like playing through the most important events in a historical tale, and maybe you'll fill in the gaps in your head, if you like. Honestly hard to think of any clear cons. It can be a bit easy after you figure out some efficient strategies, and the final boss tends to be a bit of a difficulty spike. Personally I stopped using the inheritance system (added in remaster) so i...
Good remaster. Love the inherit system and the guy who has access to all the equipped stuff. I did need a guide to play though because a lot of the objectives require you to leave the dungeon to proceed with the story.
A classic that never disapointed.
First off I refunded the game but I do recommend the game if you don’t mind the graphics. As much as I enjoy it, I couldn’t get by how ugly the game look, I’m not complaining about the watercolor art style, the game looks like a lazy remastered imo. The least they could do is make the characters sprites better looking and the combat animation looks like a laggy emulated game. Other than that it’s a game that requires discovery on your own or googling how stuff works depending on your patience.
Game seems really good just a bit to slow for me.
