I truly don’t understand how this game is rated so highly. The controls and overall UX are a mess. The UI and menus feel clunky, unintuitive, and unfinished. Basic features like resolution settings don’t work properly -- common monitor sizes aren’t supported, windows can’t be resized, and the result is a consistently poor visual experience. I’ve been playing tactical, turn-based strategy RPGs for over 25 years, and unfortunately, this is one of the worst I’ve encountered in terms of usability and polish. Maybe there’s a solid game buried beneath all the flaws, but in its current state, it never should have been released. I cannot recommend this game to anyone unless major improvements are made.

About This Game

Dark Deity is back! A quarter of a century has passed, as Irving and the Eternal Order carefully rebuilt Verroa to protect it against a future war. Their efforts will be put to the test far too soon as a new threat looms on the horizon. The neighboring Holy Asverellian Empire needs new lands to grow, and the fractious, fragile Verroa seems ripe for the taking. All that stands in its way is the Order and twenty scrappy heroes-to-be.
Take command of the Eternal Delegation, led by Irving’s descendants. Gwyn and Riordian will have to navigate the treacherous politics of Verroa, and weave a web of alliances to turn the tide of the coming war. Your decisions will determine the shape of these alliances and define your army. Coupled with the help of a giant pool of customizations, no two playthroughs will ever feel the same.
Put simply, Dark Deity 2 is about playing your way, all the way.

Turn-based tactical combat is at the heart of Dark Deity 2. Your 20 heroes have access to 45 branching classes, each with its own powerful abilities, passive effects, and its own tactical niche…
…that’s until you start experimenting with skills, abilities, and gear that can completely change the way a unit performs in the field and upend your tactics in a good way..
Heroes will bond as they fight seemingly impossible odds. Hardship forges the strongest bonds…but can also destroy friendships and wreak havoc. Will you be able to walk the line between the two?

A desperate defense against an overwhelming foe. A land in the grasp of war fever, panic, and factional strife. A traitor around every corner. To have a chance at winning the war, you’ll need to make some difficult choices.
Verroa is torn apart by factions, and many of these factions are fractured in turn. Decide who to support and who to throw to the wolves - but weigh each option carefully. After all, your choices may drastically change the coming battles…
Every choice can fundamentally change the way you play the game. No two playthroughs are the same and what goes right in one game can go terribly wrong in the other.

No playthroughs are the same, but you can push Dark Deity 2 even further. Inspired by the many community-made randomizers for popular RPGs, Dark Deity 2 features a built-in comprehensive randomizer and campaign customization suite from launch. Random recruitment order, custom difficulty runs with stat, aptitude, xp, gold sliders, and more are available, allowing for near-limitless replayability!

I had a lot of fun playing this game and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys tactical/strategy games. With that said, here are a few of my thoughts on the game's strengths and weaknesses:
Absolutely Nailed It
Character customization - I didn't explore this as much as I could have, but being able to mix and match different tier abilities was a great boon for creative tactics. Character relationships - I loved the side conversations that unlocked as characters fought alongside each other, not to mention the main story character development. Voice acting - Every performance was fantastic. Weapon/item customization - I loved having only a few weapons for each character but with lots of customization options. Combine that with unique rings and character customization, and you could come up with some devastating combos. Attack animations - I never got bored watching the attacks/crits play out, though I did 2x the speed for later battles...
I won't try to explain what type of game Dark Deity 2 is; the mechanics, the genre, the story, etc., because I don't believe the reader is an idiot. So just some quick thoughts: I've seen some mixed reviews for this game...many comparing this with the first Dark Deity negatively. I couldn't disagree more. I finished the first one because I felt obligated to: but Dark Deity 2 is MEASURABLY BETTER IN EVERY WAY. Better music, better graphics, better story (that doesn't ramble on for days), the ability to grind and disable turn count limits should you want to, less character bloat (with characters that you _might_ actually care about)...even better mouse implementation. This is a great game for what it is and I definitely recommend it.
Dark Deity 2 is a remarkable tactical role-playing game that expands upon the solid foundation of its predecessor while delivering a deep, engaging experience steeped in strategic combat, character-driven storytelling, and rich worldbuilding. The game immerses players in a fantasy realm where political intrigue, ancient powers, and moral dilemmas intersect, crafting a narrative that feels both epic in scope and personal in its character arcs. From the outset, Dark Deity 2 presents a compelling blend of traditional grid-based strategy mechanics with modern refinements, ensuring that both fans of classic tactical RPGs and newcomers can find something to appreciate. The core gameplay revolves around turn-based battles set on grid maps, where positioning, terrain, and unit synergy play critical roles in victory. The game’s combat system strikes a satisfying balance between accessibility and depth, featuring a variety of unit classes with unique abilities, skill trees, and weapon profici...
This game rocks. Reminds me so much of the GBA fire emblem games I loved so much as a high schooler.
My review for the predecessor is like 100k characters long, evaluating every mechanic I liked and disliked. Mostly because it was just a game. But this one is an adventure, a story. I could talk ages about how they improved upon the first games formula, how some mechanics and classes or growths are too broken and beyond control, how well the voice acting works and more. But honestly, I am preoccupied with crying right now. Find out why by playing it yourself
Unbelievable improvement from the first game! I ended up not finishing because something intangible was missing, or the whole wasn't greater than the sum of it's parts, but its clear this time around that there is a real spark! Great for any FE fans from the GBA era.
Love that more indie games are being added to this genre! I really liked the diversity of classes with one type (such as magic based characters could also be tanks) and the abilities added a lot of great nuance. Also the replayability with customizable settings like aptitudes and talents is fantastic. Great addition. Lots of QoL things to improve though. Would have also loved to see a way to see base stats outside of classes, be able to play with more than 10 characters in any mission since you get some many, have more unique enemies, and items with more unique stats. Script for characters and voice acting was a little dramatic, and should have leaned more into silliness. Still, overall fun play and glad I snagged it.
If I'm scoring out of 10, this game would be between a 6 & 7. - At it's core, what it gets right is its Combat, Unit variety, & Abilities. The further into the game you get, the more fun it is to play, especially when you get promoted. You have to wait awhile to get promoted, which is different than Fire Emblem with gradual evolution of units. The maps are a bit varied, but enemy variety gets repetitive. - The other strong point is the Voice Acting. The fact that this A or AA studio included it is a welcome sight as many non-FE Games that are AAA fail to include it in their games and I find that lazy. Though there is a caveat with this I'll mention below. - Now what it lacks from the traditional FE is a solid story. A FE3H game this is not... The main character and overall story is rather generic and been done before. I wasn't really invested in following her story. Plus, she's a forced deploy, which sucks because she's not a great unit even when promoted. - Additionally, yo...
