About This Game

Bloomtown: A Different Story is a narrative JRPG mixing turn-based combat, monster taming and social RPG set in a seemingly pleasant 1960s Americana world.

Play as Emily and her younger brother Chester sent on their summer holiday to their grandpa’s cozy and quiet town. May be too quiet… Children starting to disappear, nightmares getting more real… Something’s not right, especially for a 12-year-old girl with an adventurous mind!

It is up to you to solve this mystery and free Bloomtown and its inhabitants from a glooming fate!
Bloomtown is a quiet and cozy American town with its cinema, grocery shops, library, parks…

But this is only a façade! A demon world is growing on the underside, children are disappearing, and it is up to you to save the town!

Embark on mysterious adventure to save the townspeople from their own demons: Fear and vices have taken monstrous life form in the Underside.

Follow Emily and her group of friends, figure out the mysteries of the mystical disappearances and save Bloomtown’s inhabitants souls!

In the turn-based tactical battles against giant demons and dungeon bosses from the Underside, Emily is not alone! Use each character abilities and strengths to come out victorious. Summon your own inner demons as well as the captured ones to set up devastating combos.

During combat, catch weaken creatures to add them. With loads of creatures, level-ups, unique skills and a fuse system, create hundreds of synergies and your own demon-hunting squad.

Explore the town’s secret areas, strengthen your physical abilities at the gym, gain pocket money working at the grocery store, make resourceful friends or do some relaxing gardening. You decide what is the most useful for your adventure.

A very sad case of style over substance. The art and animations? Incredible. The music? Really nice, especially the battle themes. But alas, everything else is lacking. It wants to be Persona 5 so badly, but misses several things that make people enjoy that game. The overworld is vibrant and nice to run around in, but since your social stats level up so quickly and cap early, a lot activities seem pointless. Quests often give lackluster rewards or just flat out no rewards at all, not giving you much incentive to complete them. Dialogue is strangely verbose, with even the main characters who are tweens speaking like they've just devoured a thesaurus with a dictionary for dessert, it's rather distracting especially considering it takes place in the 60s/70s. Meanwhile, the battle system seems to be oriented around inflicting ailments, except regular enemies usually die too quickly to justify using them or have massive amounts of health that say, burning them adds a tiny amount of...

Read the reviews, gave this game a chance and now I'm regretting. The bad reviews were right, this game has pretty much no substance, it is an extremely degraded version of Persona 5 Royal, even the music tries to mimic it, but the story falls so short it just comes up to that, a terrible copy-cat. I do not recommend.

I'm sorry to say that overall Bloomtown is a pretty disappointing experience. I have a lot of thoughts and there are so many negatives I had to delete most of them so this review was short enough to post, so I'd like to start with some positives up front in the interest of fairness: The spritework is gorgeous. This is the game's biggest draw. The enemies are especially good-looking and there are no repeat or recolored enemy designs. Hats off to the art team, they did a wonderful job. The music, especially in battle, is catchy and fun. Lots of different vocal themes and all of them slap. Skills are implemented with a sort of Disco Elysium-style dice roll where you can goose your odds by increasing each of your stats. There are lots of little things you can interact with all over town to level your stats and it feels really fun doing quests and getting better at stuff. Interacting with the skill system is the most fun I had in the game. Onto the bad. The elephant in the ro...

It has a lot of strong points; the graphics are adorable and the animations are charming and thoughtful. The music is fantastic. The pacing is pretty good. The way all of these things fit together, however, needs work. It would have been nice to see as much work put into the story and game content as was put into making the game look appealing from the demo. I feel like I was tricked into buying this game with a bait-and-switch tactic of making the game enough like another game that I assume all of the parts will be similar enough to be good, but this game only delivers on aesthetic and sound design. The game was okay but if you've played Persona 5, you've already played a better version of this game. It didn't really depart from the conventions of the thing it was copying enough to feel new or original and took so much away that it felt small and almost restrictive. The battles were really the highlight and they more felt like a dumbed-down version of the Persona battle system instea...

Eh, l irreparably lost my first gameplay attempt after half an hour because the quest GUi is really bad and spams the top of the screen with endless nonsense and so the quest objectives are always super unclear and because of this I was under the impression that if I gathered the ten dandelions the event would end and I wouldn't be able to find the girl, so I went to look for the girl, got sucked into the treehouse, the game auto saved for the first time inside the treehouse, so I could not go back to finish the dandelion quest and failed it and screwed up the entire run, and I had been getting super lucky on rolls. So it kinda killed my interest right away because of its quirky nonsense. I might start over eventually and play it again, bit idk, I was enjoying the run I was on and now I lost it and kinda don't want to start again. It's stupid that it took 30 minutes to start auto saving and then auto saved three times in under three minutes but AFTER I was already fucked and would h...

Ech, i dunno. The game seems insecure to ever let up on being preachy. This is virtuous, this is righteous, this is horrible or abhorrent... and yet it seems gutless to actually say anything of substance. I honestly came away feeling insulted that this is how little effort the writers seem to think is necessary to make religious propaganda.

Just hopped into this one, I'm only at the start of day 3 but this game is seriously freakin sweet. The animation is smooth and cozy, the music really gets in your ear (including battle music with vocalists, persona style). From what I've gleaned so far, the story contends with real themes about loss, depression, and growing up in an unconventional environment. Can't wait to check out more, this game feels like a breath of fresh air.

This is a wonderful and overall well put together game. If you're a fan of persona then this is a lighter and chilled out version of that. It's baby persona. Even if you're not familiar with Persona it's a cute and enjoyable RPG that isn't too long. The dialogue is overall well written, even if it does that have that effect of 12 year olds talking like they're late teens. The cast of characters compliment each other and are enjoyable to spend time with. The life sim elements are fun though they do lack a bit of depth. The town of Bloomtown is fun to traverse, with plenty to see and being mindful of day/time schedule. Overall the game doesn't punish you in the way Persona does and by that I mean it doesn't have a calendar system. You have all the time you need to work your summer job if you want to earn money to buy all the best items, and you have all the time to level up your frienships etc. The combat is fun without being difficult and it's also where the AMAZING SOUNDTRACK com...
