About This Game

You are the Dragon Commander. Your mission it is to reunite a broken empire and become the new emperor. Success depends entirely on your ability to efficiently rule your empire, build invincible armies and lead them to victory. Your secret weapons: your tactical insights, your leadership skills and your ability to turn yourself into a dragon.
Dragon Commander is not just any strategy game - it seamlessly blends real-time strategy gameplay with turn-based campaigning, role-playing an ascending emperor and controlling a formidable dragon.

Key Features

  • Real time strategy: Command your sea, land and air forces in real-time. Combined operations and knowing where and when to hit are crucial elements of any victory.
  • Dragon Combat: During real time strategy mode, you can turn into a dragon to support your troops in combat and obliterate the enemy using your formidable dragon powers.
  • Turn based campaign: Direct your conquest on the turn-based world map; plan several moves ahead, build formidable armies and invest in the right technology or magic upgrades.
  • Rule your empire: You are the emperor and you make the decisions! But beware, political balance is easily upset. Each game is different and you'll find that a Dragon Commander needs to make really tough decisions. Feel the effects of your decisions on the battlefield as the war progresses.
  • Single-player, multiplayer and co-op modes: Play the single player story-driven campaign or test your mettle against other Dragon Knights, online or local via LAN. Start your own multiplayer campaign with or against a friend. Or duke it out on a skirmish map.

The RTS portion is a massive disappointment. Units are all piss weak glass cannons that don't operate on any deeper mechanics than raw DPS. You capture building foundations across the map that allow you to build resource structures, production and turrets. The only resource is people and it is limited. Once they run out, more recruits are awarded at a significantly reduced rate to the strongest army with the most captured points. There isn't much strategy involved, whoever started the battle with the most units is usually guaranteed to win. Army composition isn't that important. The AI will steamroll you with the basic starter unit if you attempt to actually diversify. That's true for the early game, but it's probably true for the late game too. Okay, so what about the grand strategy portion? Well, that also lacks significant depth, instead being a game of Risk where you mass produce units to make auto resolve roll in your favor. You get one battle per character, per turn. You also co...

Divinity - Dragon Commander is the most ambitious game ever since... forever. Seriously, this is a turn base strategy board game, with real time strategy battle, and third person action as a flying, fire breathing lizard with jetpack, all in one. While try to balance the political infighting between your vassals with decisions that may or may not screw you over later down the line. Thanks Angry Joe. Without his review years ago i would never know this masterpiece.

Actually finished the main campaign, really enjoyed the hybrid genre mix of RPG/RTS/4x Turn Based Strategy. Took me 12 years to finally try it haha. Would have loved it when it came out but somehow it flew under my radar back then. It's not as tightly balanced as many 4x games, certain units and abilities are very powerful and can be exploited but that's not really an issue here as it's supposed to be an enjoyable ride. The story snippets and decisions offer an interesting experience you don't quite get too often in other games. Genre mix with high potential, I hope they gather the courage for a part 2 one day. Definitely recommend giving it a try.
