Poof takes a bit of the tower defense titles and mixes it up with Mario Bros. styled gameplay (the first game with all the pipes, not the platformer). You control Poof, a dog that has to protect a cat hanging in the lower center of the level from getting attacked by all sorts of creatures. Kill enough enemies, create combos, and use your other abilities to complete objectives, score points and unlock extras, new weaponry and new abilities. The more you play, the more you'll unlock, like towers that shoot arrows or ice cubes that freeze enemies for a short while, allowing you to create even longer combos. The downside is that there's only one level. You'll unlock different backgrounds, outfits, et cetera later on to keep things a little bit interesting, though. You can even unlock an extra (still small) part of the level making things even more hectic. It's a game that keeps challenging you. Rounds can be short but never frustrating. You'll most likely want to keep trying to beat your ...

defend a useless cat that sometimes dresses up in bondage gear and get insulted by the game's name
Poöf is basically an action defense platformer. It's also a bit crazy: in it you are, after all, a hat-enthusiast doggy with a magic kitten that poops golden eggs. Monsters want the kitten too. The curse is that you will DIE if they get the kitten so, ironically, you need to defend it with your life. Basic idea is simple. Monsters come through doors that are scattered over the level, and you must kill them before they get to the kitten. You can jump on them like Mario or kill them with special items or defensive structures that can be placed in the assigned places. Being a dog you can also poop - yes, poop - golden poop that slows down anything that passes over or through it. Playing along, you get more items and abilities. There's just this one disappointing thing about the game: there's only one map. Granted, I do not think I spoil too much if I reveal that as you complete missions, you will eventually unlock new areas in the one map. These spawn new, usually more dangerous monste...
I'm glad that at least you can launch this now, although you can't buy it and the studio that made this doesn't exist anymore (RIP). The game itself isn't very much polished. Your basic way of killing enemies is jumping on them, and if you touch them on the side they damage you. Sometimes landing the same jump would damage you in one case and killing enemy in the other. This makes you want to avoid corners of hitbox, which leads you to spending extra time on that one enemy. This thingy alone hurts that concept of fast-paced arcade arena. While trying to kill small flying enemies you will most likely just bump into them, staggering yourself without achieveving anything. This game rewards you for not wasting time taking damage, and in the same time you can't trust your own movements half of the time. Very repetitive and gets boring fast. I doubt this game will ever come back or ever be "finished".
It's like Orcs must die + Mario Brother's arcarde + three times the amount of poo that is present in Castle Crasher's It's challenging, very fast and fun, the only thing it really lacks is a 2player mode.
The game does not work on Linux. The launch crashed. I even installed libmonogame-cil which seems to be a replacement for XNA on Linux. Then it loads some background music but only black screen. After loading several times, now it displays only 1/4 of the entire screen (top left corner) , and the rest is black. I will change my recommendation if I can make it to work correctly.
an absolute classic blast.. a tribute to the bubble-bobble era... addictive, one-more-go, great graphics and soundtrack... and cheap as chips... BUY IT! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt8J2e8UAII&list=UUy7kWBkzBwT1jsz7biD4rVg&feature=c4-overview
This game is addictive! I like it :D
at first sight i thought oh yay another rage tower defense but as i started playing i got really into the challenge and quests at the start i was confused as all heck but then after a while it turns into an addictive minigame it does get kinda stressful at some points after a while which can make you wanna pull your hair out but i would recommend this game
Mac users beware. No sound and apparently no fix. I found a comment on the steam forums from a year ago and the issue has still not been addressed by the developer.
