About This Game
The townspeople of Banished are your primary resource. They are born, grow older, work, have children of their own, and eventually die. Keeping them healthy, happy, and well-fed are essential to making your town grow. Building new homes is not enough—there must be enough people to move in and have families of their own.
Banished has no skill trees. Any structure can be built at any time, provided that your people have collected the resources to do so. There is no money. Instead, your hard-earned resources can be bartered away with the arrival of trade vessels. These merchants are the key to adding livestock and annual crops to the townspeople’s diet; however, their lengthy trade route comes with the risk of bringing illnesses from abroad.
There are twenty different occupations that the people in the city can perform from farming, hunting, and blacksmithing, to mining, teaching, and healing. No single strategy will succeed for every town. Some resources may be more scarce from one map to the next. The player can choose to replant forests, mine for iron, and quarry for rock, but all these choices require setting aside space into which you cannot expand.
The success or failure of a town depends on the appropriate management of risks and resources.

There is a genre of city building game that is quaint, smooth, and enjoyable to watch your town grow. A kind of game that is a relaxing vibe to test and play with city builds, commerce, and jobs to create your own masterpiece of a city that's wholly unique every time. Is Banished this kind of game? No. Absolutely not. Not in any way, shape, or form. Listen, I want to like this game so bad, I truly do. I love the simple graphics and lovely music, and I find that the whole aesthetic is wonderful as a medieval town builder. But holy fuck, this game is absolutely BRUTAL. This is not a game where you can take your time and experiment. This is a game all about staying ahead of the curve, constantly planning ahead, and learning the "right" way to play. And yes, there is a right way to play this game. Just looking for a moment at the community hub for this game will show you a flood of guides, tutorials, and posts about how to not get your ass kicked by this game. I'm gonna be honest, if...
I have loved this game for years! It is the OG of building survival games and it always calls me back for revisits! Thanks so much to the creator for making this game. :D
You start with a handful of families who were kicked out of town (probably for crimes like excessive potato hoarding or marrying too many cousins) and now you’re tasked with making sure they don’t immediately starve to death. 1. Build houses -> kids are born -> kids grow up -> marry each other (hope you like family reunions with extra spice). 2. Everyone freezes to death because you forgot to cut enough logs. 3. You finally stockpile logs, but then everyone starves because apparently fishing is harder than inventing the wheel. There’s no endgame, no quests, no revenge arc. I was fully expecting to march my inbred potato empire back to the original town to exact vengeance, only to find out they already starved too.
one of the goat city builder games. its a shame the dev stopped working on it.
Simple and straightforward. Deeper tech trees don't make a game more interesting.
Build big village, wells everywhere, 3 buildings randomly burst into flames, no one does anything, village burns down.
Not as good as the trailer makes it look. I love city building games, but this one has... something... that just didn't resonate with me. The graphics are simple, but that's not the problem. With Empire Earth (which has even simpler graphics) I have no issues. However, this one is just... plain... I can't accept it in my heart.
Low stress old world village and farming community where you manage it all versus being a character in the game. There are mods right inside the game to handle any of the things that might bug you in the basic form of it and I have enjoyed this one for years as a break to relax and watch little people run around doing things. Nothing fancy, it just looks good and works right. Have fun and don't worry, after a few villages and possible fails, you will realize its pretty simple once you figure it out.
