About This Game

Play as Rob, a friendly musician trying to restore harmony in an off-tuned world where wacky villains are corrupting music.

Rick Riffson, boss of the evil Super Metal Records company, is using the Battle of the Bands contest to extend his hold on every last note, chord, and song by trapping the best musicians with deceptive soul-binding contracts.

Embark on an adventure with Rob and his zany rock-loving friend to end SMR's plans. Stay alert during your journey: Riffson’s devilish goons, monster-instrument hybrids, and legendary musical animals will try to get in your way!

Explore this musical land to add sick riffs to your deck, and wield your mighty guitar to unleash powerful crescendo attacks in epic music battles!

Carefully composed by Ritual Studios, Fretless is a pixel-art adventure set in Rob Scallon and his friends' diverse musical rock world.

Honestly didn't expect it to be as good as it is. I went in almost blind and was initially attracted to the art style and interesting looking turn based combat. The music is excellent and the difficulty curve is just right. It feels appropriately challenging without feeling too easy or too annoying. Do yourself a favor and get this game

I loved this game. Not without its flaws, but clearly a product of passion. Silly, at times a bit janky, and music loops in fights can get a bit too repetitive, but overall a fun 10-hour experience that combines jrpg with rhythm games and card collection. I will be looking forward to a second part if it ever comes out.

Despite its buggy launch, this is easily one of the best games of 2025. This RPG tastefully combines turn-based combat, deck building, and rhythm-based quick time events. The pixel art style is adorable and the soundtrack rips (you will probably recognise some YouTube musicians). I'd say you can beat it in 7 to 10 hours. I can see myself coming back again to try different builds and chill out. PS: Please do not judge this game based on how lame its intro cinematic looks. Maybe it was a placeholder? No idea...

Heard Northlane made the music, but HOLY—didn’t expect absolute riff madness. This game shreds harder than my speakers at max volume. So incredibly fun (especially on 8-strings!)!

Great short RPG, which is my favorite kind of RPG :) The team nailed the vibe of this game, the art the music, the engaging battle mechanics. One thing I was blown away by about this game are the pixel art animations. They are incredible. I had a blast, and this game did not get stale! Honestly I enjoyed it more than sea of stars.

First - thank you, Rob and the other, for making this game! I can't really write good reviews so gonna make it quick. Why you should play this game: 1) If you are a fan of Rob Scallon's YT channel, you gonna love it, because it based on a lot of inside jokes and "lore" with so much cool references; 2) Graphics and visuals are so charming and highly detailed for a small game from a newborn studio; 3) Gameplay is a very comforting mix of a jrpg and rhytm game with a choice of different playstyles; 4) Personally, it gives a really strong vibe of games like FEZ and Hyper Light Drifter; 5) Story is quite simple but it doesn't overwhelming you with a lot of big and strange dialogues (i like it); 6) It's about music and has a very cool sound design. For me it's a very nice game, and i really like, how guys made it with passionbut keeping a lot of details in mind. I would love to see some future development like DLC with new small story and instruments (like the infamous double-neck guitar, ...
