After a couple hours on the 1.0 release, I feel confident in saying this game is somehow in a worse state than very early in early access. The release patch is incredibly bloated with content which lacks any sort of focus or unified vision. The new and most powerful items (of which the game throws at you like candy) have such obscure synergy patterns that it becomes impossible to optimize them. The original Backpack Battles was beautiful in that it felt like it always should be possible to *fully optimize* any given board: to get every star filled and every synergy checked out. That vision has vanished. The strategy now is to optimize just one of your silly-complex super items and just let the rest of the stuff do whatever. Random stats and status abound. It's just ugly and random as hell to play, the beauty of its simplicity gone. There was always some fun in the combinations, but these days the combinations have become the driving focus of the game. Meanwhile, it's as hard as ever ...

About This Game
Prepare your backpack!
Buy rare and legendary items and organize them to make powerful builds.
Then battle other players with it!

In Backpack Battles, you fight with your backpack full of items. It matters what you buy, and especially how you place it! The smarter you place your items, the stronger you will be!

Items come in different shapes, sizes, prices, and rarities. Combine them into even stronger equipment.
Brew a powerful potion, craft a legendary weapon, or hatch a dragon friend!
There are over 400 different items to choose from!

Face the builds of other players in different game modes:
Unranked: Low pressure without timers
Ranked: Gain points against equal opponents, but still at your own pace
Custom rules: Play unranked but change gold, maximum health, and more
Lobbies: Match friends or streamers live with a timer!
See what they came up with, and counter them.

Pick one of 6 classes depending on your play style, each of them with 5 subclasses!
Do you want heavy crits or poison damage over time? Or squirrels?

No microtransactions. No pay 2 win mechanics. No waste of time meta grind to pad the game out. You buy the game, everything is right there, and then it's up to you to master it. Plus regular updates and balancing, and at a very reasonable price. This is how a game should be.
I can't believe someone would make the perfect game for autistic people and then have a core gameplay mechanic be making food touch.
This game is really good as a guy who likes rotating shapes in his head but the artstyle can be a little tough to stomach sometimes. I wish the artstyle for the game looked like the cover art for the steam page that they added in 1.0.
pick a class, grab some items and watch as this autobattler does most of the work for you. After each round you grab new items and either try to combine them or find a build that works for you. What I enjoy about this are the subclasses, pets, and other unique items that pop up from time to time. It's quite fun and it takes a bit of skill to get good.
Very fun and addicting game! Very long grind to get all achievements (around 250 hours). So many builds and no run is ever the same. I have been playing this well before the official launch of 1.0 and they are very quick to buff and nerf items that are deemed overpowered or lacking. The addition of randomize when picking a new ranked game is a blast and can lead to some crazy and unique setups.
Despite the toy interface this game is really deep and interesting for most people with a lively mind.
A brilliant auto-battler with lots of fun little jokes and silly items. Can be played seriously, casually, or however you wish. Offers great experimentation and creativity with builds, and at present, doesn't suffer the issue of one type of build dominating the game (although there does need to be more anti-cold items). A great strategic auto-battler, 8.5/10.
I love this game but....... Please add a feature where we can confirm or cancel the crafting at the end of battle UI, I am so sick of crafting away a key component on a wrong craft, clicking away from the battle does not give me the "alert" of crafting a item, a little confirmation could be added to avoid false crafting. You can say its skill issue, but i believe it happens to the best of us, and it is really upsetting, this should be a easy and worthy feature to add.
Sorry, but I jsut don't understand this game. I've won my first 10 battles and what now? Nothing. That's it?
