They censored it, didn't fix any meaningful bugs, and didn't really seem to improve upon the original product. Glad I didn't pay for it.

I played the hell out of the original trilogy and S2. The Enhanced Editions launch with no sound and no cutscenes, and tech support has been not great.

Since they've delisted the original edition of the game, I'll repost my review for this new one. Although I haven't done a more in-depth test, based on the time I played and the generally negative reception all three new versions received, it seems this is just a engine and visual update and barely brought anything new in terms of quality of life. There are more artifacts scattered around, a shortcut to loot everything and sell entire stacks at once, and I think that's it. Despite the slightly blurry image, it looks much better and the game runs well now (Effects render properly; No stuttering; And you can record your gameplay), but I've seen many reports of crashes and new bugs that weren't present in the original, which was notoriously inconsistent. All the most obvious immersion-breaking issues are still here. They didn't fix anything. And i've encountered a few instances where enemies "shut down" and snipers that simply can't land a single shot, even with me standing still in...

This is overall an inferior art piece to the original. It censors plenty of important backdrop, removes random things for no discernible reason and somehow managed to fix none of the issues the original had. If anything it seemed to add more. *However*, playing the original on a controller is a nightmare, and that means playing it on the Steam Deck is a nightmare. This well-entertained me through an 11 hour train ride on my Steam Deck, so there is reason to play it. It's not drastically worse or anything, it's just mildly inferior in a bunch of little ways that don't make the game *bad*, just slightly worse and less of a creative vision. It has practically no reason to exist unless you are using a controller - in which case, play this version.

★☆☆☆☆ Terrible!
Action
Shadow of Chernobyl is an amazing game, that you definitely should play, but aside from the addition of achievements there's no reason to play this "remaster". Gameplay isn't different as far as I can tell from original. Achievements are fun to collect, but overall I don't see much of a difference other than some bugs I found. Found stashes sometimes empty (never happen to me in original). Corpse flick like when its dead and go ragdoll it just shot itself out of the world left only the gun there. All of this I never found in original!
Overall If you want to play Shadow of Chernobyl I'll just recommended to get the original to be honest!

i think this is a great way to play vanilla stalker for the first or 20th time, considering you no longer *have* to download any community fixes (but you totally can)! i decided to give them a try now that these versions been patched up a bit, and had a really good time. even changes as subtle as being able to render grass as far as the eye can see without a huge performance hit were really satisfying to me. considering stalker's old tech, putting these editions together must have been a very difficult task! most of the complaints i've seen about this version (and the enhanced editions in general) are effectively that it doesn't resemble stalker with one of the ridiculous 20-year comprehensive mod projects installed. these complaints feel unreasonable, if not un/intentionally disingenuous. stalker 2 received the same complaints. it's stalker, mostly as it was out of the box in 2007. you know, the game we all fell in love with? those mods and the original versions of the games are stil...

Literally unplayable. I try to play it, and it just closes itself seconds later without even showing me anything. I must have hit play at least a hundred times just to get enough "playtime" to post this.

They over-cooked this one. I liked the original monolith VA more. Soviet markings removed. Modding is moderated. Also I don't understand the maniacal need to rename everything aka Chernobyl.

Its a shame STALKER didn't fully click for me; I love the setting, the moody atmosphere and even the slightly janky game play but the combat proved to be just too much of a hurdle for me. At distance, the guns seemed too weak and I would find myself squinting at the tiny targets - and up close the enemies would rip me to shreds with a couple of shots. I tried both the enhanced and original versions and aside from some nice lighting upgrades there wasn't as huge difference - a few more quality of life upgrades to modernise the experience may have kept me engaged for longer? Who knows. I can understand why this has such a passionate fanbase but I can equally understand why most newer players will bounce right off it.
