The vibe and mood of this game are perfect and everything seems to combine to make for a unique experience that is truly "yours". The artwork is beautiful and gives each character a flair all of their own, the voice acting combines with it to form wonderful personalities with every character, BUT there is more to those characters than just the costume and colors and voice. Take Hussar for example, taking the time to learn his story and befriend him rewards you with learning what is under that armor of charm and humor. Every character is like this, from Anastasia the beautiful piano teacher, to Roman the bookseller, it's a world filled with personalities that you want to interact and learn more of. There is a lot of Eastern European folklore tossed about, a bit of poker, and a lot of book reading to be had. This is overall a very "cozy" type of "horror" game, while not overtly scary, it is Gothic in theme and presentation. The endings you have with some love interests left a lot to be...

About the Game

Cabernet is a 2D narrative RPG set in a 19th century Eastern European inspired world, with a modern twist. Guide Liza, a young vampire struggling with her morality and the supernatural world she has been pulled into. Will you retain your humanity or descend further into the horror you have become? Prepare to explore a hidden world of political intrigue, class conflict, and decadent corruption.
Use the moonlit sky to plan your next feast and explore. Mingle among vampiric society and the humans who feed them. Uncover who can aid your new kin and whose only purpose is to be drained.
Vampirism isn't just an unholy transformation of your body-- it also threatens to transform your mind. Will you choose to indulge your empathetic humanity or embrace your newfound nihilism?
But to lure your next meal somewhere safe and secluded, you'll need to understand who they are and what they desire. A kind-hearted, alcoholic coachman? A fraying newlywed couple? A greedy, yet charming charlatan? Their lives are yours to aid or unravel.
Art, literature, history, science, these are the skills you'll require to succeed. Your knowledge will be your greatest weapon in a world where the cunning drain the brutal of life.

Not to write a review for this game would be the same as not letting the cat stay. I wouldn't be able to bear either of those options. Well, what a ride Cabernet was. I played through it at least 3 times, and there was so much to discover every run. So many dialog options, so many different outcomes for our protagonist Liza, her friends, and family members. I went into the game completely blind, and you should too. The voice acting was so good! I enjoyed every second I listened to them telling their stories. They make you feel engaged in the story, their hardships and joy throughout the whole game. There isn't a single character I didn't grow fond of...even the bad guys made for good stories, and their way of thinking and acting did make sense. I like it when games let you decide whether you play as good or evil, or a mix of both sides, and here we can do exactly that. I don't want to say anything about the story here; you should play it for yourself if you like Vampir...
OMG this game is so good, such good written characters, a well developed story, fun choices and interesting consequences. I cried emotional tears at the games ending and cant recommend enough. 10/10 Reminds me of mass effect in all the best ways, the developers did an amazing job with this game and I'm so excited for what they do next.
This game is incredible. The art, the story, the music, and the voice acting are all amazing. Having completed one playthrough, I can genuinely say I'm looking forward to playing it again, just to explore all the different questlines and outcomes there are. It actually got a little darker than I was anticipating (not in a bad way, just surprised me) and I appreciate that choices you make are cumulative in a really rewarding way. One small complaint is that the movement/interaction spots can be a little finicky, which is frustrating during QTEs but a very minor thing overall. Definitely recommend this if you're into vampires/gothic stories!
Set in an interesting place in history, coupled with a very interesting art style, and a certain cozy quality despite the subject matter that arises throughout the game. I'd qualify it as a gem and would love to see more from them in the same vein, if one would excuse the pun.
What an eternal journey. You see the change in human society and relationships. Every character takes so many interesting aspects of life. You see the intelligence, charms, resilience of the women, so powerful, rarely do I see so many female characters shine in a story. It really takes you to think of the society and people in the aspect of a longer timeline. And i'm so happy the game's true ending gives a closure of all characters. Despite some lack of game-play (understandable), it is so inspiring and touching. Exceptional for a small production like this.
I greatly enjoyed this game overall, but what really won me over was the epilogue. Seeing the consequences of all my choices was immensely satisfying and I thought that the game explored serious topics very well. "Demons may be hereditary, but we are in charge of them" that's going to stick with me
thank you for creating basically my ideal type of game, i loved pretty much every second of it :) the story, the characters were so beautiful and had me emotionally attached. will prob replay sometime also i would love some game reccomendations that are similar to this game
I'm very borderline on whether to recommend this game or not. Ultimately, it did have my interest for most of the runtime, so I think I'd give it a very qualified thumbs-up if you're a big fan of vampires, which I am. Games like these really live or die by the story and characters, and unfortunately both are pretty predictable and unspectacular, so I'm not very tempted to do another 8-hour run just to see a few differences along the way. On the pros side, the voice acting is good, and I really do like the art style. The whole paper-doll aesthetic does fall apart a little bit whenever there's any kind of action scene, because it just looks silly, but I could sit around all day putting my character in different kinds of 19th century dresses.
Loved it. My only complaint is that I got locked out of the cat quest and didn't realize it until it was too late :(
